Thanks to B-D reader 'von Thun' we've got some bloody behind-the-scenes images from the set of Children of the Corn, which was lensing in Lost Nation, IA. The images feature Daniel Newman as Malachai and Preston Bailey as the new Isaac. Directed by original producer Donald P. Borchers from his own screenplay, the film is slated to air on the Sci Fi Channel next year. Former Vietnam vet Burt's marriage to Vicky is on the rocks, but Burt hopes to rekindle their old flame with a second honeymoon driving trip. Unfortunately, their journey takes them into the heart of darkness -- a seemingly deserted rural community that conceals a grim secret among its rows of tall corn...
This movie looks great and I can't wait to see it. This one will be better then children of the corn:Revelation because more effort has been put into prodution values and the cast look great.Malachai looks like an up to date young man.I think lots of girls will want to breed with him before he turn's 19.Looking forward to seeing this one,its nice to a differant film company make a children of the corn movie.
This one will be great and Dimension will copy it with more money but may not succeed in making a better movie.Children of the corn fans have 2 remakes to look forward to and maybe more sequals after that. A short story by steven king has turned into a long running franchise which will be around for many years. He could have been part of this success and added idea's to these movies but instead locked himself away in his house as a recluse for many years.I don't think he enjoy's fame and attention.
Interesting that they didn't change the setting. It's likely to take place in the 70s(considering that Burt's a Vietnam vet, which had it been modernized, he'd be well into his late 50s, or even 60s).
The problem with remakes these days is that the memory of the film being remade is often better than the actual film was. A lot of these cherished, sacred, franchises from the 70's and 80's have a long history of hoaky, cheesy, terrible film making. But it was a film from our youth so we hold it near and dear. I personally never found CHildren of the Corn even a little bit scary. People are scared of the goofy red headed kid? Come on, he looks like Ronald McDonald in Gay leather in this remake. Shameful and doomed.
I take it back, the kid looks like Denis Leary. A comedian. Sorry but I'm not scared of Denis Leary. And I doubt this kid is going to carry the movie or bring anything new to the franchise.
Rollstuhlwolf, he's not in leather. The shiny parts on him is the blood splatter. His pants and shirt seem to be cotton-based. As for remakes, it's actually both ways on that one. I mean, "hoaky, cheesy, and terrible film making" isn't limited to the 70s and 80s. Hell, a LOT of horror movies NOW are just as bad. Sure, they use state of the art techniques, all these sorts of camera angles and tinted filters to make it LOOK polished, but the movies AREN'T any better than the old ones. They still suffer from horrible writing, directing and acting. Rarely do you get a good horror movie now, but it's not different.
I actually liked Children Of The Corn: Revelation...well for what it was anyway. I mean, it was sort of low budget, but pretty good. I never really cared for the original COTC films. part 1 was ok, but part 2 was lousy. Part 3 was pretty good, but part 4 was where it started to get good for me. Part 5 was not that great though, but i always liked Part 666 the best for some reason. and then part 7 was pretty good. but since this remake is going to be on the Sci-Fi channel, it can't be too great. i never really care too much for any of the made for Sci-Fi channel films. like that Bats 2 films...that was not that great. but maybe this one will be alright. who knows?
The diner picture looks like they took a brand new building and just threw some hay and corn husks everywhere. I think this remake is a very bad idea and it will probably end up as a forgotten relic of made-for-TV pieces of crap. Oh well. I wasn't planning on watching it anyway.
I don't like the new Issac. John Franklin was perfectly cast in that role, and this kid just looks like some little punk. However, I am looking forward to this because it's being remade directly from the orginal story King wrote and the story is actually pretty scary. The original had a ton of stuff missing from the book.
All of thr Corn movies thus far have blown, so the bar is set pretty fucking low for this. It will be real hard to make this any worse than the others.
This one will be different from all the previous ones. THIS one has the approval of Stephen King. THIS one has had some of the screen play written by Stephen King, and follows the novella. (King rewrote the short story into a short novel)
As far as it being made for Sci FI Channel, that is somewhat true. There will be a version for theatres (Europe and -select- US theatres) and a cleaner version for SciFI Channel.
I live in the town where they are filming, Lost Nation, Iowa (will wrap up tomorrow) and have spoken to the director, producers and several of the production crew. Have also been watching the filming for a solid week. THIS one is in a different class than the others. Watch for the DVD if ya want the real deal.
omwee: While that IS the best news this project of doom could have, may I remind everyone that Stephen King also wrote the teleplay for The Stand. And if anyone thinks that turned out as a good movie, I will fight you by the flag pole after school.
Only in the United States will this movie air on the SciFi channel,in Europe the movie will be in theatres and on dvd.Steven King is huge in Europe at the moment. His name will bring this movie lots of attention. In Europe John Carpenter is also very successful.Europe has been a good friend to him over the years. The United States give these Horror Legends a hard time but Europe loves them.
My dad live in Lost Nation. I watched them film some of the movie. My stepsisters are even extras in some scenes. I have some really nice photots. I also know a few thing they haven't gone public about. I don't like horror movie but, I will watch this when it comes out.
my dad also lives in lost nation. and not only did i get to watch them i was in it as an extra. this movie is going to be awesome
