‘Friday the 13th’ Star Comes Face-to-Face with Jason Voorhees!

Earlier this week Bloody-Disgusting caught up with Arlen Escarpeta, who stars at Lawrence in New Line Cinema, Platinum Dunes and Paramount Pictures’ Friday the 13th remake, which arrives in theater February 13, 2009. Inside you can read about his role and his run-in with Jason Voorhees. Watch for spoilers. The pic directed by Marcus Nispel is the retelling of the original Friday the 13th about teenaged summer camp counselors that are systematically slaughtered by a mysterious killer. Jason Voorhees will wear the mask and kill, keeping the famous setting of Crystal Lake.
In New Line Cinema’s remake of FRIDAY THE 13TH, Arlen Escarpeta plays Lawrence, one of the unlucky teens in the film.

Lawrence is a really cool laid back kind of cat,” he tells Bloody-Disgusting. “He’s not a follower, in the sense of he walks to the beat of his own drum and he definitely doesn’t want or like people to think that they can size him up…

In the film, Lawrence and a group of other teens end up at a cabin in the woods… near Crystal Lake. “Trents cabin should be the name of a new club on Sunset… A little bit of everything goes on there- flaming drinks, ultimate beer pong, sex, and naked monopoly. OK, scratch the last one…” he jokes.

During his stay at the cabin, Jason Voorhees comes to the attack. Escarpeta talks about how far his character gets and briefs his run-in with Mr. Voorhees.

The odds were definitely stacked against me seeing as how I’m the black guy,” he jokes, “but I make it well into the latter part of the film! YES!!!” He continues, “As far as my rendezvous with Mr.Voorhees, lets just say that he would definitely excel in the hammer throw…

Being that he comes head-to-head with the legendary slasher, Escarpeta talked a bit about the new Jason’s mannerisms.

He definitely does [move fast],” he explains. “I think both fast and slow Jason has something to bring to the table. Whether he’s moving fast or slow, it’s really all about the build up that gets you.. But I must say the debate on outrunning Jason just got a little bit more interesting…

Jason Voorhees is know for more than the mask, as he uses an array of weapons.

For the most part, everything is sharp, blunt or can at least penetrate the human head…

Escarpeta knows a bit about it, ‘I definitely had my share of movie blood…

FRIDAY THE 13TH arrives in theaters February 13, 2009.
