During an interview with IGN, Dario Argento revealed that his breakthrough work is also circling being remade. "I think somebody also wants to remake Bird With the Crystal Plumage (laughs)," he tells the site. "I hear that somebody wants to do that, but this is much more difficult to remake because there's a link to Italy in the 1970s, which is a little bit difficult to do. But if somebody wants to do that, okay..." In probably the first Italian "giallo" film, a writer is stalked by a serial killer after witnessing a murder attempt on one woman's life.
Who ever wants to remake this great movie is a hack. Who ever does it is a hack. Most people who come up with remakes are hacks. There are plenty of broke ass writers making good scripts. Just give them 50 bucks and a meal for a story and do that instead. Learning about new movies is not even fun anymore because they are all either shit or remakes.
The first giallo was "The Girl Who Knew Too Much". MrDisgusting should really do some research on the genre before addressing what is "probably" the first film of its kind. In regards to this remake, I could understand remaking 'Cat O Nine Tails' or 'Four Flies on Grey Velvet' but 'Crystal Plumage' is one of Argento's best, and you can't improve upon perfection. This is starting to remind me of Gus Van Sant remaking Psycho.
fuck off. seriously? Why? That doesn't even make financial sense to me... I mean, the whole point of doing remakes is that it's a proven story and they know they can make money, right? But so how does doing a really obscure italian movie from the 70's make sense in that fashion? Don't get me wrong, I love TBWTCP. It ans Deep Red are my favs, I just can't see any motivation beyond pissing his not huge fanbase off.
NOOOOOOOOO!!! A BIG FUUUCKK YOUUUUU TO WHOEVER WANTS TO REMAKE THIS GEM! If I find out who it is I am going to flood their inbox with lots of hate mail. American filmmakers who keep doing this shit can go fuck themselves and stay the hell out of Hollywood and away from these classic films. What is going to be next, ALIEN??? THE GODFATHER???? fuck this shit!!!
All these fucking remakes and Poughkeepsie Tapes, Amusement, and Trick r' Treat keep getting bumped. Why don't studios take a fucking chance at something new - especially if it has already been made and getting good film festival reviews? I know the studios are thinking quick cash with this remake shit but good horror movies make more money over time. And since we are on the subject of remakes; fuck that Prom Night remake!
Bigga up to ghost_of_Lugosi and americangods for mentioning Mario Bava; I'm sure Argento would love to think he invented giallo and it's a common misconception as Argento's work gets far more attention than his peers in terms of international release.
I'm also taking this opportunity to announce my plans for remaking Fulci's "The Beyond" with Lions Gate Films. Then I'm going to work on a new vision of "House at the Edge of the Park" with Eli Roth. ;)
Well, at this rate, it won't be long before someone remakes 'Four Flies on Grey Velvet'. That seems like the only way most of us are ever going to see that fucking movie.
I think someone should start buying remake rights to great films and holding on to them so no one can remake them! i'd love to get the rights for cannibal holocaust and battle royale.
This article sums up how bad this site has gotten.
First giallo film? And you consider yourself a horror expert? Jesus christ. Get some new writers. This site is becoming an absolute joke.
Wow. BIRD WITH THE CRYSTAL PLUMMAGE "probably the first giallo film"? REALLY?
Guess THE GIRL WHO KNEW TOO MUCH, BLOOD & BLACK LACE, NAKED YOU DIE (aka SCHOOLGIRL KILLER), among others, don't count for some reason?
If you need help with that kind of research, you could always check the boards.
thedescent08; don't worry about a remake of Cannibal Holocaust - that will never happen. I know there have been talks of a remake but trust me. First off, you've have to get a director crazy enough to try it. Secondly, someone would have to convince a bunch of investors to put money into such a controversial film topic. Thirdly, the original was great but not for everyone - that film didn't appeal to a large enough demographic for a remake to get green-lit. I know that Texas Chainsaw Massacre was intensly violent and still got remade, but it didn't have unborn babies being cut out of their mother's womb like Cannibal Holocaust did. :)
coldblood: great points! you're probably right. unless someone does an extremely watered down version, i doubt it will happen. Have you noticed that none of Lucio Fulci's films have been remade? I thought that was really strange. Maybe the rights holders are holding out. And to anybody else who's reading this -- don't get any ideas!!!
