Nicolas Cage Hunts Down a 'Witch' For Columbia

Who would have thought I'd cringe when Nicolas Cage gets cast in a horror movie? After years of being one of my favorite actors, he has quickly become one that I'm quite nervous about. Even though he has been in garbage like BANGKOK DANGEROUS, GHOST RIDER, WICKER MAN and NATIONAL TREASURE, he still was in GRINDHOUSE, Alex Proyas' upcoming KNOWING and more. So, who knows, maybe he still has it? Either way, Cage is jumping back into our genre as he'll be taking on a "Witch" in a new movie by Relativity Media and Columbia Pictures, read on for the story.

Nicolas Cage will reteam with director Dominic Sena for the supernatural thriller Season of the Witch for Relativity Media.

The story revolves around a group of knights in 14th century France who must transport a woman accused of witchcraft to a mountain abbey, where the monks will seek to understand and destroy her powers, believed to be the source of the Black Plague.

Bragi Schut Jr. penned the screenplay.

Film, which had been in development at Columbia Pictures, will be produced by Atlas Entertainment’s Charles Roven and Alex Gartner.

Shooting is scheduled to begin in early November in Austria and Hungary.

“Season of the Witch” marks the second collaboration between Atlas and Ryan Kavanaugh’s Relativity. Earlier this year, the two companies brought the Jason Statham starrer “The Bank Job” to the bigscreen.

Cage previously worked with Sena on “Gone in Sixty Seconds.”

I really like the premise, but I don't trust Cage. Especially not in a period piece. And I think it's insanity that you (Trevor23) think Ghost Rider and National Treasure sound better than this, based on synopsis alone.

Ghost Rider is a lots of fun.

Let's face it, if not for Lynch's masterful Wild At Heart and the overlooked classic Vampire's Kiss, would Nick Cage even be taken seriously? I used to love the guy and his track record as of late has really sucked.

I got to agree with milkman. Cage has really sinked into a pit of abysmal crap lately. I feel the last semi-decent movie he was in was Lord of War. Please don't fuck this up any worse, cage.

in defense of nick cage i must say that national treasure was decent for what it was, a disney flick. ghost rider wasnt exactly the finest comic book film to come out but it wasnt nick cages fault, and to be clear, he wasnt actually in grindhouse. he was in the very short fake trailer that rob zombie made for in between the movies. people need to stop judging the work of an actor before they even see the picture he or she is going to put out next. maybe this witch movie will be good, maybe not. time will tell.

Look, Cage has done some good movies. But lets be honest; he has only done one great one - Leaving Las Vegas. I think even Cage would admit that was his crown jewel. Hopefully, he makes a great comeback someday and stops doing shit films. I'm not saying he's a bad actor, I'm just saying he picks a lot of crummy films to be in. And yes; Wild at Heart, Vampire's Kiss, National Treasure, Adaption, and Lord of War were good - but Leaving Las V is the bomb!

I don't understand. Wtf was wrong about Wicker man??!!! The first time I saw that movie, it really had me going for a while. I mean, I'm not over-exaggerating if I say that I had sleepless nights after seeing that in theatres!!! Wtf is wrong with you fuckers, how can you say such things?? Hell, it was creepier than the first SAW-movie!!!

Nicolas Cage hasn't made a good movie in three years, so I don't really expect this to be a knockout.

Wickerman sucked, but Ghost Rider was dumb fun, keep it OTT and action packed and it'll be watchable -- just don't go ‘serious’ -- Cage doesn’t seem to be able to cope with serious these days

Maybe he should do another 'Leaving Vegas'... Since that was and by far will be his greatest performance.. He was 'okay' in Con Air, 'Matchstick Men' was funny / laughable, 'Face-Off' was awesome.. And that's about it, considering Mr. Nickolas Coppola.. It's not that he sucks as an actor, it's just these roles he keeps getting or saying 'yes' to... He should be more picky or dainty, if you feel me..

Look, it's okay that people are hating, but they have no right to hate HIM... Cauz it's NOT the person itself, like I said, it's the MOVIES.. It's not that I'm a fan of him – I couldn't care less about him, but it's just that when I see these dumb, stupid comments of obviously ignorant people who can't tell 'good' from 'bad' movies, then I DO get, kinda, upset..

I forgot about Matchstick Men and Raising Arizona - my bad. Actually, I'd like to see him do a porno where he screws that weird Lisa Marie Presley that he was married to. That would be some scary shit.
