This weekend B-D reader 'Casper T.' sent in three casting breakdowns, which he received at work this past week. Inside you can read about some of the characters you'll find in the following films: Dread, which is currently lensing in London with Anthony DiBlasi behind the camera; Clock Tower, which begins filming in Los Angeles November 6th; and Sorority Row, the remake of THE HOUSE ON SORORITY ROW.
DREAD
[QUAID] In his mid to late 20s, slender and unkempt, with severe features, sharp lips and piercing eyes, Quaid is a deeply disturbed young man whose psyche has been distorted by the unspeakably violent murder of his parents, which he witnessed, when he was a child. Very intelligent, capable of charm and sincerity when he's on his meds, of a philosophical but cynical nature, prone to the extreme, Quaid befiends film student Stephen Grace, and convinces him to make his thesis film a documentary on people's innermost fears--a project which will allow Quaid to exploit his own obsession. Disgusted with the run-of-the-mill terrors their subjects bring in, Quaid goes off his meds (which makes him delusional) and goes off the deep end, becoming the driving force to get himself and others to actually live through their most primal fears...LEAD (9)
[STEPHEN GRACE] 22, a fairly normal young man, intelligent, sensitive, down-to-earth, a bit shy (he thinks he has the social skills of a 15 year old) but appealing, Stephen is a film student who's had a fairly average life, with the exception of the tragedy of his older brother's death in a car accident seven years ago. Befriended by the intense but oddly compelling Quaid, who helps Stephen loosen up and experience the thrill of an adrenaline rush now and then, Stephen agrees with Quaid's suggestion that he make his thesis film a documentary on the nature of fear. Stephen becomes accustomed to Quaid's habit of pushing the envelope, and genuinely feels a bond between them when Quaid opens up about his parents' murders and Stephen honestly discusses his feelings about his brother's death. As the documentary continues, Stephen begins to realize that Quaid has stepped over the edge, but he has no idea how far into the heart of darkness Quaid has gone--or the price he himself will pay to follow...LEAD (6)
STORY LINE: Film student STEPHEN GRACE is befriended by a disturbed, unsettling young man, QUAID, whose life has been distorted by a nightmare tragedy in his youth. Quaid convinces Stephen to make a documentary about people's worst fears, but Quaid soon goes over the edge in his quest to completely understand and experience the full measure of dread...
CLOCK TOWER
[DR. THOMAS BATES] In his 40s – 50s, married, with a young daughter, he is a renowned psychiatrist who has finally given up a long stint in a maximum security psych ward for private practice. However, his new upscale patients are boring rather than challenging, and he jumps at the chance to dig his teeth into something more substantial. We later learn that Thomas, not unlike Alyssa, suffered a disturbing childhood, and lost his schizophrenic mother to suicide. As a young boy he had vowed to learn how to make the voices that plagued her go away. While he could not save his mother, he finds a chance to do something right in the life of Alyssa Hale...LEAD (9)
[ELEAZER BARROWS] 40s – 60s. A grizzled man with a terrifying face in a long black robe, usually seen with an antique pair of shears, he is a fire 'n' brimstone preacher from the 17th century, responsible for the hanging of a great number of "witches." He now makes his presence known to those remaining members of the Hale family, including Alyssa Hale and Chloe Bates...LEAD (6)
[SANDI BATES] In her mid 30s – early 40s, wife of Thomas and mother to their six-year-old daughter, Sandi is a likable, nurturing woman, a furniture restorer who works out of the home. She's happy to have her husband working regular hours with more sane patients, irritated and concerned when he takes such an interest in the case of a young woman at the hospital. Later, she becomes alarmed when it seems that Thomas may harm their little girl...LEAD (11)
[DR. HENRY KAPLAN] In his 40s, African-American, he is the psychiatrist resident at the hospital, currently treating Alyssa Hale. Perplexed by Alyssa's lack of response to massive medication, he calls in the much-revered Dr. Thomas Bates. He's taken aback when Thomas tells him to take Alyssa off her meds, despite the many traumas she's suffered...LEAD (3)
[CHLOE BATES] 6 years old, she is Thomas and Sandi's adorable daughter, a bright and precocious child who is constantly conversing with her imaginary friends. However, we later learn that one of these imaginary "friends" is an evil preacher, responsible for the persecution of many witches in the 17th century. Her innocent childhood is being shattered by a disturbing presence...LEAD (11)
[JESSICA COOK] In her 40s, she is the wife of the late Edmund Cook, an expert on the Hale family as well as an avid collector of all things pertaining to the Hales. She quickly opens up to Alyssa and Thomas after learning that they are both part of the Hale clan. However, she's clearly tired of all the "crap" in her home and is looking to move soon. She is more than happy to give Alyssa the infamous shears used by the notorious preacher, Eleazer Barrows...15 speeches & 5 lines, 1 scene (81) PLEASE SUBMIT INTERESTING CHARACTER FACES! [LUNDY] In his 30s, mentally unstable, he is a grubby looking patient who is always making sexual overtures towards Alyssa. Later, he comes to a bad end while trying to rape Alyssa in the hospital basement...1 speech & 5 lines, 3 scenes (5)
STORY LINE: A troubled young woman being treated at a hospital psych ward finds friendship and a kindred spirit in the person of a psychiatrist whose family history is bisects her own...

[MAGGIE] 18 years old, Megan's almost identical younger sister (SUBMIT AUDRINA PATRIDGE LOOKALIKES), smart, strong, not intimidated by Jessica, Maggie shows up at graduation and nearly gives the Theta sisters a heart attack with her resemblance to her/their dead sister. She knows all Megan's friends, having met them on a visit to the college three years ago, when she was 15; however, she has no idea that the girls have anything to do with Megan's disappearance, which was never solved or explained. Planning on pledging to Theta in the fall, Maggie is not afraid to challenge Jessica and not only stands her ground but goes one step further by sleeping with her boyfriend--and she goes after Jessica physically when she learns that Jessica was responsible for Megan's death...LEAD (26)
[KYLE] Jessica's boyfriend, who looks like he's just stepped out of a Land's End catalogue, blonde, buff and cocky, he's the son of a senator and planning big things for himself and Jessica. Spoiled and selfish, Kyle knows about Jessica and her sisters' part in Megan's death and the cover-up, and he's furious when he thinks she's going to let it get in the way of their future success. In fact, he's prepared to go to great lengths, including violence, to make sure that Jessica manages to keep things under control...LEAD (30)
[MICKEY] Kyle's sidekick, less blond, less buff, but equally cocky, Mickey is Claire's boyfriend, who's obviously more interested in sex than her. A fairly sleazy guy, Mickey is mad at Claire for snubbing him at the post-graduation party, and tries to lure two naive girls into the Theta house in exchange for some sexual favors. He ultimately meets his death at the hands of the cap-and-gown killer...LEAD (30)
[SENATOR PITT] This older, southern, conservative, very controlling gentleman is Kyle's father, who has a private moment over lunch with Kyle's girlfriend Jessica. A man who wields his power for his own ends, the Senator makes it quite clear to Jessica that he expects his son's future wife to be a certain kind of girl, and he wants no surprises from her--or else her dream of a life with Kyle will go away...4 speeches & 7 lines, 1 scene (38) CAMEO ROLE
[DR. ROSENBERG] 60, Chugs' therapist ("for a therapist, this guy could use A LOT of help"), he's a freaky guy who lets Chugs have prescription drugs in exchange for some bizarre sex with him. He's killed by the cap-and-gown killer while waiting for Chugs to get ready for one of their appointments...1 speech & 5 lines, 1 scene (39) CAMEO ROLE
[JOCKEY GUY] This physically fit jockey guy making out with the Sorority Slut nearly loses his chance with her when he tells her he's a high school sophomore, but he's so ripped that when he takes off his shirt she's all over him. He winds up with the Sorority Slut in Jessica's bedroom, where things don't exactly go as planned...5 lines, 2 scenes (51)
SYNOPSIS: When five sorority girls inadvertently cause the murder of one of their sisters in a prank gone wrong, they agree to keep the matter to themselves and never speak of it again, so they can get on with their lives. This proves easier said than done, when after graduation a mysterious killer goes after the five of them and anyone who knows their secret...
Its going to be interesting to see how they turn Dread into a feature film. The story really only involves Quiad, Stephen, and a tiny handful of others characters in very few actual situations.
They did, however, turn Midnight Meat Train into a passable feature, so I guess anything's possible!
i was wondering that myself horrormaven......the clock tower sounds good along with the dread.
