Some pretty big news for comic book fans this afternoon as Sci Fi Wire caught up with Director D.J. Caruso who tells the site that Y: THE LAST MAN will in fact be his next movie. "We turned in the script to Warner Brothers last week, and we're trying to strategize and figure out [how to do it]. ... It's kind of new to New Line and Warner Brothers, because they have a new relationship now, and, yeah, we're hoping that's the next movie." He also explains who his first choice to play Yorick in the adaptation is Shia LaBeouf (Disturbia). You can read the full interview by clicking the link above.
no offense to caruso but find someone esle....if u keep asking shia to be in your movies, the next thing you know is that shia will be the only one starring in your movies.
Like most of you, I'm wondering what the hell is up with D.J. Caruso putting "LeBeef" in every single one of his films. "Disturbia", "Eagle Eye", and now "Y: The Last Man..."
As long as Verne Troyer plays Ampersand, I couldn't give a shit who plays Yorick!! (Maybe a little Rae Dong Chong as Agent 355 to get this little firecracker poppin!)
The only thing I've seen with Shia that I regret him being in was Indy 5. But then, I regret EVERYTHING about that turd of a movie! He was fine in Holes, Disturbia, and very good in Transformers.
Besides, every director has a favorite actor to work with...god, just ask Burton. So who cares?
Caruso hasn't done a decent movie since 'The Salton Sea'. I was initially excited about what he'd follow up Salton Sea with, but everything he's done since has either been a near carbon copy of a much better film (Disturbia, Eagle Eye), has starred Shia LaBeouf (same two movies) or been marred by a predictable twist ending (Taking Lives). I suspect Y: The Last Man will turn out something like the Will Smith incarnation of I Am Legend starring Shia LaBoeuf (replace the dog with a monkey). To date, Shia has done about twenty-one movies, he almost totally ruined Constantine and his only great movie, Bobby, wasn't exactly a starring vehicle. Two out of twenty-one is not a great average for an actor whose supposedly the next big thing. Then again, considering he started out with Even Stevens and Dumb and Dumberer, he should be grateful he's still working at all.
This is up there as being one of the greatest comics i've ever had the pleasure of reading. I'm sure a movie won't do it justice, but I can still dream...
