Boyle Teases '28 Months Later' Possibilities

After the moderate success of Fox Atomic's 28 WEEKS LATER, Dany Boyle had gone on record stating that there could be two more entries in the series, 28 MONTHS LATER and 28 YEARS LATER. Since then, Fox Atomic has collapsed back into 20th Century Fox and the franchise has been silenced. Danny Boyle's latest project, the astounding SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE, has been playing this past week's Toronto International Film Festival, where he has resurrected talk about the next film. Read on for the skinny.

There’s a bit of discussion going on about it at the moment,” Boyle tells MTV of what I’m going to start calling “28 Months Later,” the third in a series which began with “28 Days Later” in 2002 and continued with “28 Weeks Later” last year.

I have an idea for it [but] I’ve got to present it and see what people think really because it might be silly really,” he laughed.

On the matter of whether or not he would direct the film, though, the “Slumdog Millionaire” helmer was much less coy, admitting that “it was a possibility.

Fox would be stupid not to invest. Both films were a box office success, plus, they were decent mainstream horror films! Forward march on this...

This is the only thing I want to happen in the entire world. I would love to see another '28' movie. I don't care if it's in theaters or direct to DVD. I love this world they have created.

Yeah 28 Weeks Later cost 22 million and earned 28 million domestically. 28 million, kinda ironic. but I hope we get to see what happens to andy and sara in the sequel

i was initially dubious of the last sequel - but it totally rocked. please make parts 3 & 4. surely if it made $28M, then add DVD sales, there's profit to be made

I also agree with Grime...I want to see the Rage virus affecting the whole world, not just the UK.

i'd love to see another "28" seriously would't it be cool to see an American version where they r reacting to the events in the UK. Or the worldwide effort to stop the spread of the Rage virus

also, Danny Boyle is an awesome director and storyteller. i really doubt his idea would be "silly". his movies are all awesome, so i think we're in for an incredible 28 entry!

I love both 28 Days and 28 Weeks Later. I'm surprised that 28 Weeks Later was just considered a moderate success. It won 'Best Horror Movie' at last years Scream Awards. I'd like to see the Rage virus affecting animals. But I realize there's probably not a feasible was to do that without using CGI - which now looks fake in every movie. But it would be cool to see a Rage infected tiger escape from the zoo and start mauling people....

Yes, yes, YES!!! Please let this happen! I usually don't geek out like a fanboy, but damnit I love '28 Days Later' and '28 Weeks Later'. I'm invested with whatever Boyle wants to do with the franchise--please continue this series!

28 Weeks Later IMO is the best zombie movie to date. Not sure about 28 YEARS, but we should definitely get a 28 Months.

I would love to see a "28 Months Later". Possibly set it in France as to continue from the last shot in "Weeks". This is a straight up can't miss situation.

didt care too much for s8 days later, but loved 28 weeks later..... that being said i would love to see another one in the series, but if he says its silly then leave it be, i wouldnt want this series to go down hill. All i no is that i would hate to see 28 years later, because without a doubt it will take the scifi approach and ruin the horror that these movies have, UNLESS it was done without the scifi aspect, only then will it intrigue me

i really think Boyle is being modest when he says "silly". he's yet to make a bad or "silly" film. so i think that's his way of just testing the waters with his idea. he has said in the past that his idea would involve Russia or something (not France like in WEEKS).

28 Weeks Later was a really lackluster sequel. The plot with the zombie stalker dad was hilariously bad. There was so much shaky cam, it was nearly impossible to tell what was going on during action scenes. Not to mention, both of those kids were immensely annoying. The only part of that movie really worth watching is the helicopter scene. Get back to the character driven aspects of 28 Days, and make me actually care about the people involved instead of having a bunch of expendable losers.

28 Months later would rock! Let's hope that this happens! Maybe the virus could spread to the good ol' US of A. That could be an interesting scenario. Either way I'd just be glad for a third film in the series. I was really surprised at how much I like 28 weeks later. Here's to hoping that 28 months later does happen!
