Last October The Weinstein Company passed on Kevin Smith's horror project, Red State, with everything going silent thereafter. Since then, Smith has directed ZACK AND MIRI MAKE A PORNO, which just had its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. Smith was on hand who made a surprising statement. "First, I'm going to do a 180 turn and do a horror movie called Red State," Smith told Sci-Fi Wire. "It's going to be a total horror-political-psychological movie without a funny line in it." After RED STATE, Smith is working on a superhero movie, which he hopes Seth Rogan will star in.
Hasn't he been trying to make this for a while? Wasn't it supposed to come out BEFORE "Zack and Mindy?"
...and his best movie was Chasing Amy, Clerks is a close second.
I hope it has the sharp dialogue we've come to expect from Smith. You know, because "it looks like a stage is being erected" is such a common thing to say. Fucking putz.
It will be interesting to see what Smith does with a horror flick. The only thing I worry about is his somewhat pedestrian visual style. He is getting better on that front, but horror is one genre that lends itself to a strong sense of mise en scène. I hope he hires a really good director of photography and really sits down before hand to plan out the look of the film.
i hope it comes together for him...i don't really understand why he'd do it...i can't imagine that our beloved genre would seem rewarding to a filmmaker..with that in mind i assume he's passionate about it...also typical non-horror directors that dabble in the genre tend to do something interesting..

but anyway i dont know about kevin smith doing horror, his comedies are great and i can see him doing a super hero movie but IDK about horror for him, might be a bit of a stretch...
