Planet Terror and Death Proof Come to Blu-ray
Friday, August 29, 2008

The Digital Bits reports some disheartening news. According to the website, Genius will finally release the Grindhouse films, Planet Terror and Death Proof, on Blu-ray Disc on 12/16 (SRP $28.95). Extras, however, appear to be identical to the prevoius DVD editions - therefore, no trailers will be included (what the f*ck!) From groundbreaking directors Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez comes the ultimate film experience: a double-bill of thrillers that will recall both filmmakers’ favorite exploitation films. “Grindhouse” will be presented as one full-length feature comprised of two individual films helmed separately by each director. Tarantino’s film, “Death Proof,” is a rip-roaring slasher flick where the killer pursues his victims with a car rather than a knife, while Rodriguez’s film explores an alien world eerily familiar to ours in “Planet Terror.” Welcome to the Grindhouse - it’ll tear you in two.

I'm sorry how is this mainstream shit? Was it the directors, the story line, the lack of audience, not even sure how it can mainstream if the only people who went to see it comprise of horror buffs and Rodrigez/Tarantino fans. Rodrigez says on the original dvd that they will be making a special edition of Grindhouse so hope is still out there for the trailers. I won't rebuy them unless I get the trailers and some extra extras.

They're still releasing them as separate disc again? What fuckers. It's a good thing I recorded Grindhouse on Showtime a few months back.

Blu-ray is the perfect format to release the theatrical double feature cut of the film. There's plenty of room and they could easily toss the extras on to a standard DVD 2nd disc if space got to be an issue for a single BRD. Also, why should I pay twice for what should properly be one film? Fail.

Does anyone else find it a little bizarre (boderline ironic) that they're going High-Def with films that were made to emulate old, scratchy film?

"Planet Terror" was fucking lame, at least "Death Proof" felt like a real Grindhouse film. "Planet Terror" was just cheesy beyond belief. Robert Rodriguez makes Uwe Boll look good.

Grindhouse was one of the greatest things to come along in ages -- maybe ever. I cannot for the life of me believe that modern asswipe movie-goers missed out on something so unique (for today's audience, that is.) And I am seriously hoping that we'll one day be treated to a 3 or 4 box collector's set which actually *features the fucking trailers*! What gives already? Are we never gonna see the whole deal until the goddam studio squeezes every last cent out of us or what?!?!?
