After delivering such fine films at THE CROW and DARK CITY, it's hard not to be excited for Alex Proyas' next venture, Dracula: Year Zero, which he has no begun work as he waits for his latest film, KNOWING, to arrive in theaters next March from Summit Entertainment. This morning we came across a new interview with the director, who talks about what kind of mythology we'll find in this new Dracula tale. Read on for the story.

[DRACULAS: YEAR ZERO is] sort of the origin tale that mixes [the historical] Prince Vlad of Transylvania with sort of [fictionalized] Bram Stoker [take],” he tells MTV.

When originally announced, it was said that the script chronicles the epic origin of Dracula, weaving vampire mythology with the true history of Prince Vlad the Impaler. It depicts Dracula as a flawed hero in a tragic love story set in a dark age of magic and war, repositioning him more as a vengeful hero than the monster seen in Bram Stoker's classic novel.

One of the main questions that always arises when a new vampire or Dracula film is announce is, will he be able to transform into bats, will garlic hurt him, will he appear in mirrors and most importantly, will he have giant fangs?

Oh, you’ve got to have teeth,” Proyas tells MTV. “I mean, the teeth are really important. I think Frank Langella in the ‘Dracula’ movie that was made in the 70s, I think he didn’t want to have teeth in the movie. But, no, I like the teeth. I want to see girls with a lot of teeth.

Ok, so teeth are in. Garlic? “I think the garlic thing is kind of weird,” Proyas laughed.

And the transformation into a bat? Well…Proyas wouldn’t say. So what parts of mythology DO make it into his version? “Stakes and teeth,” the director smiled. “And we’re lots and lots of blood!

I think I could always count on Dracula (pun intended) to deliver the goods in terms of the traditional vampire. I want to see him react violently to a crucifix, too, if that's not too much.

please no more zombies, no more vampires...it's become so overflooded with these movies that it just isnt fun looking forward to them anymore...it's kinda like will farrell and sports movies...how much more sports comedies can you make... the guy is great yeah he's funny and unique yeah, but semi pro just didnt do it for me for the simple fact it was yet another damn sports movie...overkilling a certain type of movie is hapenning to much...it just gets old and boring after a while, no matter how good the cast no matter who's writing and directing, the simple fact that these basic formula's are being replicated every 10 seconds just makes them all loose their spunk
