MGM has slated Drew Goddard's (Cloverfield) latest project, The Cabin in the Woods, for release October 23, 2009, although early announced dates like these rarely stick. In addition, MGM is putting the film out a week before Lionsgate's Saw VI, which will hit theaters on October 30th. I'm not quite sure it's such a good idea to let them go head-to-head as Jigsaw will ruin Goddard's (short) camping trip. WOODS is being co-written by fan fav Joss Whedon. No details have been released for either film.
well it all depends on how fans will react to saw 5.if saw 5 tanks and is a poor film...will i'll be one pissed off dood.lol but seriously if saw 5 isnt good then lionsgate dug their last hole.on the other hand if its good well maybe word will go around and the saw haters mite accept it more than 4 and wouldnt mind a 6
i'll DEFINITELY be up for 'Cabin'. i don't even care what it's about. i'm just SO not into the SAW's anymore and we NEED something else on Halloween OTHER than Jigsaw.
lionsgate is already on my shit list,they shafted cabin fever 2 and meat train and give saw 4,5 and 6 (!) a 3000 screen release? que pinga??..i mean wtf..imma go catch saw 5 at the drive in so i dont gotta pay for it.
Horror movies make the bulk of their theatrical income during their first weekend of release, then USUALLY Fall off the radar anyways...so I don't think Saw will affect this other movie a whole lot since Cabin comes out beforehand.
The box office of the Saw films is dropping. Saw 4 dropped over $20 million and only made $60 million total. Saw 5 might make $45 million total.
I could see part 6 making 20-30 million total. People just don't care anymore (and rightfully so).
I clicked on the headline and was excited b/c I thought that they were announcing release plans for Cabin Fever 2, but alas. I DO want to see Cabin in the Woods though. I stopped after Saw 3.
Well even if Saw V is a letdown I'll still see Saw VI. But as a big Saw fan I really have to admit I'm getting sick of these movies. Who knows maybe there will be a Saw X. I can't wait to see that day.

1. Saw sucks and needs to be murdered at the box offices
2. Joss Whedon has a smudgeon of talent AND works in scifi and horror (people with talent try to avoid these genres), but his role will be as a producer, so that doesn't mean this film is going to look as good as a Whedon directed piece.
