After being pulled from the internet a few weeks back, we have just been given the first hi-res look at Jason Voorhees (Derek Mears) in Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema's Friday the 13th remake. Inside you can take a peak at the masked killer who will return to the big screen on February 13, 2009. WHat do you think of the new Jason? The pic directed by Marcus Nispel is the retelling of the original Friday the 13th about teenaged summer camp counselors that are systematically slaughtered by a mysterious killer. Jason Voorhees will wear the mask and kill, keeping the famous setting of Crystal Lake.

Yes, tool belt is a great idea. What does he look like under that mask? It's a tricky one. Can't make him too retarded looking, because it would downplay his toughness. I hope Scott Stoddard did it right...
That's a good look. I really like the way they've combined his looks from the first few movies. Very intimidating. Don't fuck this one up, Dunes. It'd be the first time you didn't, but everything's looking good so far.
I like it Im still on the fence for some reason about the outfit probably cause I am used to seeing him a certain way through the years. I love the fact he can run and is gonna be all agile and shit that's sic. The hair doesnt bother me at all I think its kinda fitting considering I doubt he would care or take the time to Telly Savalis his head every day. The tool belt is a cool idea he would have to have it to live off the land. I like Marcus' directing style the lighting he uses is key and I think will work with this type of film. The outfit though? Just not sure yet I think it also could be it looks a lot like freddy vs. jason just without a black shirt. I guess if the jacket was zipped up it wouldnt bother me so bad. Whatever I will wait and see what happens with it maybe it will be fine. Everything else though I am diggin.
I don't see why so many people hate the jacket. The producers aleardy stated in an interview that it gets really cold at Crystal Lake, so why wouldn't he wear something to keep himself from freezing his ass off. Remember that he's human here and can still feel the affects of tempature just like the rest of us.
Anyways, I don't wan't to rant on, but I like the look and can't wait for this flick. Bring on 2/13/09 :)
If I remember correctly the hair isnt his but is suppose to be the scalp of his Mom. I want to say I read that here from a quote by the movie producers/exe's
Either way its going to kick some ass.
I'd like to see a Friday The 13th film that examines the effects of Jason's psyche, and how he reacts to living in the forest. And, quite possibly, where he manages to get these tools, tool belt, and how he even stays in shape. THAT would be an interesting twist on the formula.
I think that's a machete holster, not a full blown tool belt. Although holding a machete on your belt makes it a blah blah I know. And Jason managed to somehow change his clothes several times in the original series. Even got gloves while underwater. So who cares what he's wearing, there is no "official Jason costume" outside of the mask.
Woah, I've defended it.
AT LEAST!
SOME BRAND NEW STUFF OF THE NEW JASON!
I ACTUALLY REALLY LOVE THE "NEW" JASON VORHEES LOOK...I MEAN HE HAS BEEN MORE SCARIER WHEN HE WAS A "HUMAN" KILLER THAN THE COMIC ZOMBIE KILLER... I HAVE TO ADMIT ACTUALLY THAT IT WAS A LITLLE SCARIER THE XOMBIE JASON BUT THE HUMAN JASON SCARES THE SHIT OUT OF ME!!!
GIVE SOME MORE INFO GUYS!
That wouldn't make sense if it was his mom's scalp...in the sneak preview at SDCC that kids pulls the mother's head out of the whole in the wall with a full head of hair. I think you read that wrong...he's got hair.
so i never knew..is he DEAD and keeps coming back? or THOUGHT to be dead, but isnt and goes all revengelike on everyone?
i never knew to take it as a ghost like situation or just made it through barely.
but then again...burying, and digging up in EVERY movie kinda answers that.. atleast in the later ones.
I love everything about it... except the hair. A little hair is okay, but a full head of hair? Come on! When I watch it I'll try to keep my eyes off of his head and on the awesome-as-hell tool belt.
The hair is just too clean and pretty! Shouldn't it be all grungy and matted...you know, to kind of go with his clothes?!? Oh well...I guess even crazy, deformed serial killers who don't do laundry like to use a little Pert Plus every now and then...
and the hair looks fuller and neater because the bands of the hockey mask are pressing it close to his head. making it look like he has more than he does.
it will be patchy and stringy.
First off, Jason wore a tool belt with various instruments of destruction in Friday The 13th Part 6. And B., Jason has had hair in various sequels, why is everyone so butt hurt about this?
Did everyone forget that in 4 of the other movies he had patches of hair? And Did everyone forget that he had a "utility belt" in Friday the 13th VI: Jason Lives?
Seriously. Are we really concerned about this?
Interesting. I wander where in the story they are starting because it's being marketed as the original Friday the 13th remake, but Jason isn't in the first one, since it's his mother who is the killer.
Movietiger05, it's a combination of key parts from 1-3-ish. supposedly it will show Mrs V get decap'd then will have Jason in the sack/hood. then he "graduates" to the hockey mask.
the reason i say 3-ish is because i believe the Clay/Whitney connection is from part 4 (like Rob looking for Sandra's killer or even the Trish/Tommy inspiration).
Lol. They officially release a single photo that everyone has seen two months ago. One of the three images that Warner Brother legal got their panties in a knot about, and half the internet is using as their message board siggy/avvy. Genius.
Luckily Jason has a big fan following already, because this partnership of the inept assholes at Warner Brothers and the B-D hype machine, that got about 50 people stirred up to see Midnight Meat Train is not doing squat for the fans.
Still not feeling the hair. He looks like he could join a death metal band with RZ's Michael Myers and the PD Leatherface. I kinda see the multi-weapon use pointless. He has all these weapons at his disposal. That lovely kickass machete is just HANGING at his side! Old Jason would only used "other" weapons if they were conveniently near by, but most of the time, wasn't above just some good old machete fun! I truly hope this Jason doesn't go through a situation where he's choosing which weapon to use from his belt. That would but stupid. Use whatever is laying around, but the machete should be the MAIN weapon.
The clothes, the jacket, the hair. Who Cares! It's Jason F'n Vorhees coming to a BIG SCREEN NEAR YOU!!! As much as I love Jason X and Jason Goes To Hell, this new flick looks like it has got some hardcore cashola to throw around. Imagine that? A Friday the 13th flick with a budget. I'm stoked!
I'm loving that tool belt. For the most part he always hung around barns and cabins in the first few movies, so snatching a tool belt full of pointy, stabby items seems SO likely. I'm just really not sure about that hair...but I can see why they would want to change something about the character other than his clothes for the remake. As long as I see sex having teens getting speared to a bed, it's Jason in my eyes.
I thought Jasons mother was the killer in friday the 13th. Is this a remake of part 2 or what?
Jason is good marketing so that is why they are including him in the remake.
Looks like the jason we all know with the hockey mask.
rikki ya jasons mom was the killer in the first one.....ya i noticed the hair too i was like ok since whne did jason have hair???? *i think he had hair when he was a lil kid in the original 1st one when he was drowning in the lake???) hey but i dont care long live jason! i so cant wait for this!
Jason gathering various instruments for his hack-fest is nothing new. He got Tommy's gloves & reclaimed his mask from him in part 6. Not to mention the paintball guy's machete & belt with various pointy objects (cop/ knife in the head/ falls in canoe). Stabs what looks like a survival knife into a dude's head. He's a very resourceful fella, Mr.Voorhees. It's a common thread in every movie he's in. Christ, he killed a girl with a party horn in part 7 (chick in van/ in the eye). Remember the biker"Fox" that got a shovel in the throat in part 3. He uses whatever his surroundings offer him. Even a corkscrew to pin Jimbo's hand to the table in part 4, so he could shove a meat cleaver into his face. Ain't it cool? "Hey Ted, where the hell's the corkscrew?"----Friday the 13th part IV.
I LOVE IT...it is old school. Back when he was HUMAN and not this monster he became after 6. This movie is for the old school jason fans NOT the Kane Hodder ones.
The tool belt looks cool but if he uses it I will be disappointed. Isn't Voorhees a child minded killer, who kills whoever is in his way? If he reaches for a tool doesn't it look like he made a conscious decision to use needle nose pliers to rip out someones tongue instead of just slashing his way through.
Ok I'm wondering why the hair and wardrobe are such an issue. How many stylists are in the woods keeping mentally challenged psycopathic serial killers up to snuff with the latest trends? Really? No, really? This is an issue? I think the new vision of Jason is fantastic! Remember this is a rewritten storyline based on the original F13 one through four combined. Mrs. Voorhees is in this storyline and I look forward to seeing thw new vision of this timeless franchise. The new Jason looks terrifying and now he's faster and angrier, love it!
Can someone please explain to me how this can be a remake of the original? Do we need to review our history? JASON DIDN'T KILL ANYONE IN THE ORIGINAL!!! He didn't show up as a killer until the sequel, and the hockey mask didn't make an appeqarance until the third movie. HIS MOTHER WAS THE KILLER IN THE ORIGINAL! I am looking as forward to this, but come on. I can't wait until they explain this.
duh sure-cure, its not a direct remake idiot. Its a re-imagining, a re-imagining that includes elements from films 1-4. You WILL see pamela voorhees in the film and you will see her being decapitated(but its early in the film.
I just watched Part 2 again, and its more than a little hair. He is bald on one side and the other side is a little patchy but full and more of a reddy blonde wranga style...
Personally, I think the hair's okay. And as for the utility belt of DOOM, well...I guess it's better than Solid Snake being able to pull four different rocket launchers out of his ass. Imagine the kills our boy's gonna be able to pull off with that kind of inventory!
ok, i love everything except the hair. granted he had hair in part 2, although it wasnt bright blonde bullshit. (and you only see it when he come crashing through the window at the very end) but his hair was brown and mangy looking. the blonde hair doesnt do it for me. when he finally dawns the mask in part 3 hes completely bald, and i think they should have written that in some how... they dropped the ball there. but everything else about his costume looks great and i still look forward to seeing this very much!
Man!!! It's getting friggen annoying with the number of questions regarding "Why Jason is in this when it is a remake of the original when we all know that IT was HIS mother who did the killing! And he didn't turn up until part 2 and even then he didn't get his Hockey mask until 3"
Jesus Christ! Do you read!? It has been OFTEN stated in practically EVERY news story that has been cover to date, that this is a reimagining and uses elements of THE FIRST THREE MOVIES!! Fuck me! Can we move on now?
Wanna hear something really sick? I think the hair is a golden blonde because he never passed the mental age of a three or four year old so his hair keeps growing like a young child's. And the question of all questions is where the hell WAS he for the 20 or so years between the time of his drowning and his reappearance in part 2? THAT is what made Jason so scary. And if the writers have explored that, this movie has the potential to be really, really scary. And from what I've seen so far with the pics and Comic Con footage it looks very promising.
Here's a freeze frame shot from the latest behind the scenes footage. You can clearly see a bloodstain around the right eye of the hockey mask. Let the speculation begin.

"I knew a trapper that ate his squaw. Well, meat's meat he said. Ate everything except her fingernails, & he used those to pick his teeth"------Man in the Wilderness.
wow, you guys are all retarded. what you are referring to as hair is a combination of his head, motion blur, and the FUCKING AXE HANDLE. he has peach fuzz on his head, yes, but thats not long flowing hair. look closely. ill admit, i thought it was hair at first too. but its not. BAM! im awesome.....
Like the hair can even live with the bat belt he's rockin but given what rob zombie did to halloween last i'm not holdin my breath for anything to spectacular just yet. P.s. FUCK YOU ROB ZOMBIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok some of you really need to idk maybe go back and watch -ALL- of the movies in the franchise again so you might be able to know what your talking about instead of making your self look so retarded, as several of the non retards have stated he looks AWESOME and hopefully the movies measures up. I also hope for the return of Crazy Ralph, am I the only one who loved him???
this is a very modern day take on Jason, i dig it ! the hair makes him look so sadistic tho, its dope, but yea the belt is pushing it.
but i guess you cant have your pants falling down while slaughtering people.
You're not the only one Let-Zombies-Live. I'm a fan of Crazy Ralph myself. He had a presence about him, no doubt. When he emerges from the pantry & exclaims: "I'm a messenger of God, you're doomed if ya' stay here". That's one of my favorite parts of the original film. That shot of him leaving on his bike with that haunting Manfredini score in the background is a cool moment. RIP Mr.Gorney, you were a great one!!!! "I got ta' warn ya', you're doomed if ya' stay....go....GO"----Friday the 13th.
I am not a big fan of the Friday the 13th series, but holy fuck...this looks fucking awesome. Just seeing this picture is making me become a bigger Jason fan.
I agree, this is looking good. I also agree that this is Jason pre-Kane Hodder. When Jason was just a deformed country boy. Human Jason is way scarier than zombie Jason. I agree, the whole concept of him carrying a belt with tools, kicks ass. So the fans who want another lumbering Kane Hodder jason are out of luck. I like Kane and all, but my favorite was old Richard Brooker ala Pt. 3. Best Jason by ever.
"I doubt he would care or take the time to Telly Savalis his head every day" Actually, the concept behind the original Tom Savini make-up design was that due to whatever mysterious physical condition he suffered from, Jason was unable to grow hair. The idea was that his entire body was hairless. Carl Fullerton ignored the original concept of Jason's appearance when he designed the make-up for Part 2, but Steve Miner, Stan Winston and Doug White corrected the problem with Part 3, and all other Paramount-era sequels subsequently followed suit (with the exception of the flash-back sequences of child Jason in Part VIII).
if they are remaking Friday the 13th...shouldn't it be his mom instead?
I liked that part from the first one the most, because you thought it was a man the whole time.
Oh well, Jason is more iconic. I agree on not seeing his face, though. If he looks too deformed, than it will just take away from his horror. And it's nice to see that he is a bit leaner than older Jasons. If he is going to run and never die, then I'd like to think he would at least be fit.
"If he is going to run and never die, then I'd like to think he would at least be fit."
haha Quote of the Day. . . haha
But I for one am very excited to see this movie. . . I just hope it doesn't disappoint.
You people are right, he does look pretty good. Other the that you people are all idiots!!! They didn't need to do this movie, and it's going to be just as lame as Jason Goes to Hell, and Jason X. The only thing that is good about this upcoming movie is the fact that It's called Friday the 13th. It makes zero sense plotwise, and is going to piss off true fans of the series like myself. Remakes/reimagings should never happen. Dawn of the Dead was alright, but TCM, and Halloween were pointless, and a complete waste of time. For shame on all of you. I hope you all cry yourselfs to sleep every night listening to emo, and painting you nails. Losers!
Ooooo, irritable. I agree with your thoughts on re-makes ZombieJay. There have been a few exceptions, but most of em' suck bigfoot balls!!!! "This creature DOES exist"-----Bigfoot: Man or Beast.
Why does Jason have the batman toolbelt Wdf is that
They have ruined the frnachise
they changed everything about it hes not even dead anymore and if its a remake of friday the 13th shoudnt this be a picture of his mother not him ????
I was just a kid when they were doing a promo under the Brooklyn Bridge for Jason goes to New York. I will never forget that. I was riding my bike in my neighborhood around Brooklyn Heights and Dumbo(down under Manhattan Bridge overpass)7 AM I just decided to go under the Brooklyn Bridge to think where I'm going to ride today. There was this guy who at first I thought was just a homeless guy admiring the east River. He slowly turned around and bent over to pick up this machette and looked toward me very slowly raising the machette. At first I thought this guy is a die hard Jason fan. A better fan than I am, but was taking things too seriously for my taste. He was walking toward me. That's when I gaot back on my bike and probably rode the fastest in my life! That's when the crew that was hiding behind the equipment box came out laughing. I didn't even remember saying "Everyone wants to be in the movies." But they sure did. I slowly came back and noticed it was the real Mcoy and I've been had! They gave me some coffee to calm me down. Caffeine? I shook his hand and he gave me an autograph. Now I'm seeing this picture and by golly what a freaking flashback it is! Who cares if he's got hair or he's wearing a toolbelt? You don't see those things when he's chasing your ass with an axe! All you see is the freaking axe!
I mean I like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake, it was better than expected but no even close to matching the old one for sheer horror, but I have to admit it this looks so amazing. I like the look and everything I am hearing about this. There are only two films I am excited to see this one and My Bloody Valentine. Who knows maybe slashers will make a huge comeback.
I will definetly go see this being a fan for twenty years. But every classic horror film remake ive seen lately has been a disappointment and I think the new 13th will be as well.AS for example the remake of texas massacre and holloween..ps poopy..Well hopefully im wrong but of the looks of this remake I dont think I am.
another word Gayshit, the tool belt was in part 6, the hair has got to go!! Im sorry but the best FT13th was part 7, he was awesome looking in that one, what does it matter if he is retarded looking that makes it all the more elusive.. you dont know what it is capable of.
I love it! its not the exact same movie, its got new twists and turns, I see no problem with changin up the wardrobe. He's going to kick ass either way.
Ok I am a big fan of the Friday movies. and yes they did get campy at the end but then again I lalso love Campy low budget Stuff. However I also HATE I repete HATE remakes. You do not remake the classics. So this movie from What I have seen and read about it so far Will not get a penny out of my pocket. The only way I will see it is if a friend comes to my house and ties my to a chair. gags me and tapes my eyes open.
It's the punisher mixed with blade and otis from "The Devil's Rejects!". When will film makers learn you don't tamper with classics unless it's dead on or an entirely new vision. I hope this remake doesn't disappoint. Such as "Black Christmas" (An embarrasment to the original film makers) and The Fog remake. Black Christmas (1974) is one of my favorites.
i'm not too sure how i feel about the new look, but its more positive than negative. He doesn't look as tough with the big coat and a belt on, but at least it isn't some Jason X bullshit
Black christmas was a really boring movie the original that is. not a bad movie by any means just lacked certain things. the remake of it wasent great but it held my attention more. not to mention the gore was good in it. As for the hair and tool belt are you people fucking blind???? he dosent have hair more than a few on his head look again if what u think is alot of hair it looks to me like the end of his weapon thats held behind his head and its not a tool belt by any means.
