A film that I had been tinkering with covering here on Bloody-Disgusting is Henry Selick's (The Nightmare Before Christmas) latest stop-motion animated movie (in 3-D!), Coraline, which is based on a series by Neil Gaiman. With every story we miss, I get more and more e-mails asking me why I refuse to cover it. Until today I thought I was just going to pass on it, but after watching Rotten Tomatoes' fifth exclusive behind-the-scenes video it seems apparent I should be all over this film. In the video found inside, Selick explains that CORALINE is "Scary and spooky and filled with creepy-crawler things..." The imagery also screams horror, even though Dakota Fanning (yuck) provides her voice. Read on for a link to five behind-the-scenes videos and watch for more CORALINE soon.
Selick's return to the movie fold comes in the form of Coraline, a marriage of his knack for dark whimsy and novelist Neil Gaiman's gently twisted sense of humor. The plot details a young girl named Coraline (voiced by Dakota Fanning) and her descent into a fantastic
The Company I work for distributes this book so I have a copy.Although its considered a children's fantasy, if they stick to the book, parts of it are very dark indeed. If they do this right it shoul be awesome. BD should cover it.

Horror comes in all shapes and sizes, Mr. Disgusting. Just because something is whimsical or aimed at a younger audience (Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride, Monster House) doesn't mean it's not horror. As long as the basic tenants of the genre apply, then it a horror movie. Sure it's not close to half of the CRAP you endlessly promote, and probably won't feature geysers of blood, shoddy camerawork and bad acting, it may be worth a look for your more broadminded audience. We're out here... Right? Anyone. Anyhoo, how else are sweet, innocent children going to be lured into becoming horror obsessed adults if not exposed at a young age?
Thought about taking my niece and nephews to see this BUT, seeing as though it looks like a darker Nightmare Before Christmas (which scared the shit outta me at a young age), I might just go alone.
I love how it's become trendy to bash on Dakota Fanning these days, when there really isn't a reason to. She's a perfectly talented actress and better than most of the "talent" found in horror movies these days. Give the kid a break people.
