New synopsis inside. Contrary to reports, Diary of the Dead 2 has NOT begun shooting yet, although we have received official confirmation that George A. Romero will be getting behind the lens for another zombie pic on September 15th in Toronto, Canada. Casting has yet to be revealed, watch for updates soon. The NEW synopsis can be found inside.

Our heroes, trapped in a mansion, battle waves of ravenous zombies, barely escaping alive. In search of a safe place to settle, they commandeer an abandoned ferry and sail to a deserted island, only to find that it is already populated by a civilization of the dead… a violent siege set in the middle of nowhere, a desperate struggle for survival and peace, between two tribes: the living and the living dead.

We don't need the first-person style for this one!

NNNOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think I'd rather see the Prom Night remake than sit through this bullshit. It hurts all the more knowing that it comes from Romero.

Ugh first person movies are over done it was nice at first now its tedious. Hopefully this time they have better actors compared to the last film.

I hate where this is going. Civilized zombies? That takes all the scary out of them.

Is it me or does this pic not have proper grammar. George's A. Romero's? Lol. I hope, like most of you, that this is not in 1st person again. It might be good, but the whole civilized zombie thing.....doesn't sound too good.

I absolutely loved Diary of the Dead. I may be in the minority on that one, but I do not care. Romero took the zombie genre (which he almost single-handedly created) to a new level. One has to take his films on their own terms in order to appreciate them. I am glad that he's making another film.

You gotta be freaking kidding me! This really pisses me off. Not because the last movie was complete and utter buttcrack, but because I know I'm going to eventually buy it. It's hard being a horror fan in your thirties. I spend way too much money supporting washed up artists that I used to idolize. Pleatherface out.......

I honestly feel sorry for people that are stoked for this...you like bad movies.

I honestly can't believe the collective mindset here would prefer the upcoming Michael Bay/Friday The 13th travesty over this. Wait, yeah, I can. Sad, sad, sad lot you are.

I'd rather watch Jason hack people up for 90 minutes than watch some dorks I've never heard of film each other without a steady cam. It's not 1999 anymore Ziltoid. Why do people hate on Michael Bay so much? Like it or not, I think he's done alot for this generation as far as horror is concerned. Both Chainsaws were great! Amityville Horror was not that bad. The Unborn is promising. Transformers was good. People act like this dude killed their grandmother. Pleatherface out.......

Ah. There we go. I just got done posting three rather positive comments, and thought maybe I've been drugged with that happy pill from Brain Candy. But now I can happily take a digi-dump all over this news. Diary of George Romero's Political Agenda 2. I personally think he should have stopped at Day of the Dead, the highlight of his career.

The first one was soooo good even for a zombie film. I think were getting into a era of first person filming. Its pretty interesting how many ideas u can think of with the first person and it really worked well with this film and hopefully its sequel.

RobocopsSadSide

Why do they consider Diary part of the series? I'm pretty sure Romero himself has stated that this is a whole different beast.

Romero hasn't had a KICK ASS zombie movie since Dawn.Time to get back to your roots.

1:02pm, August 19, 2008

I kinda liked the first movie, a big part of why i liked it is how it ended. But making a sequel, oh god no! even if i liked the first one, i really dont want a sequel...

ziltoid the omniscient

His films have a message, and a socially relevant one. Too bad he can't blow stuff up real good like Michael Bay can.

mightyboosh
1:37pm, August 19, 2008

the quickest turn around for a romero zombie film all good cant wait

deadlover
1:56pm, August 19, 2008

ziltoid, just because he has a message, that doesn't make it a good movie. Yes Diary has a message, but the way he "explored" the message was crap. Without that shitty narration, no one would have known he was doing something he didn't do 4 times before. And he really didn't. This plays out like his others, just from camcorders this time. He should've stopped at Day. The first three are great. But that's it. And as for the Michael Bay bit, sure he's a bad director and seems to have even less imagination as a producer, but those aren't the things that are enjoyable about ANY of the Friday movies. No one goes to see a Friday movie for the direction, we just want to see Jason hack some people up. They were never "good" movies, but then that's just it. They know they're just for fun. Unlike recent Romero. It's NOT good OR fun, but we all know how good it used to be and how compared to that Diary was a waste of time.

abe_the_cop
2:48pm, August 19, 2008

ziltoid the omniscient....To bad he tried to execute that message by using myspace and you tube. COME THE FUCK ON! The "message" was BARELY touched on and the story was ridiculous. And who the fuck is talking about Michael Bay? Are those my only choices? Dude you don't know what the fuck you're talking about.

George took a gamble with the 1'st Diary, and I hope as always he'll respect the fan's wishes, and give us a true Romero Future classic. I always look forward to a new Romero movie but, I'm not gonna Hold my breath for another Great. Oh! and George how about a remake of 'Martin' Surely with todays FX It could be Fantastic.

It's not like Diary lit up the box office, but it had strong enough DVD sales to warrant a follow-up. And since this will be the first true sequel in the Dead series, with returning characters and a continuing narrative, we can only assume ol' George has a story he isn't done telling.Bitch all you want, it's going to get made, and most of you will still see it,and then you'll bitch some more.I can't wait to see this movie!

Irish Mic
6:02pm, August 19, 2008

George should just do a spin off from day of the dead. "The cronicles of BUD". The film should follow him around after he escapes the bunker and battles with the natural instinct to feed off humans while trying to maintain what he had learned from the doctor while continuing to teach himself almost like a Frankenstien just more graphic and more satire. That would be a great picture if it was executed right. You could have Paul giamatti as the new Bud oscar winning concept right there I have to say.

I'm not a big fan of zombies being on an island, but because It's George A. Romero, I'll watch it!

6:48pm, August 19, 2008

Hmm... I think George Romero is too old to know what's cool. I love the original Dead Trilogy but since seeing Dawn of the Dead 04 slow zombies just don't cut it anymore.

Who is funding this piece of shit? The first was one of the worst movies i have ever seen, do they really need to make a second? I think the Police academy deserves another movie more than this piece of shit!

8:00pm, August 19, 2008

swan, i think it's the Weinstein's again, but i could be wrong. i hope they kill of the "lead" girl from the 1st Diary. she was SO unbelievably bad, the zombies had more character than she did. talk about a Murphy Brown-ish dull, droning voice and presence!

Romero still makes films because he actually has something to say. How many hack studio slaves can you say that about?! And first person POV is overused? Okay, well how about traditional cinematography?! That one's been done millions of times and nobody bitches about that. Comparatively, first person POV is still rife with possibility, and I, personally, find it to be a very immersive way to tell a good story. Oh yea, that's another thing: Romero's pics actually have a story going on underneath all that food colored Karo syrup. Diary 2 will no doubt be head and shoulders above most of the needless BS that's being foisted upon us these days. Long live, Romero, the greatest far and away!

All I can say is I hope I don't get the same feeling I had after seeing Diary in the theater. TOTAL DISAPPOINTMENT. I even rented the DVD to see if I missed anything and to watch the commentary...Any insight the commentary gave (lack of funds etc...)didn't improve the movies viewing,,,It retains the 2 out of 10 bloody cunts I originally gave it. To excuse this mediocre at best film by saying Mr. R has a story to tell Is like saying we watch slasher flicks for the moral edification. I can only hope Mr. R is as embarrassed about 'diary'as the majority of us and does a complete 180 for this one.
