'Goosebumps' Being Adapted For the Big Screen

I love children's horror films, especially when they end up being s good as MONSTER HOUSE, which is why I have hopes for the first feature film adaptation of Goosebumps, the popular children's book series that spawned more than 50 books. This evening it was announced that Columbia Pictures is planning their first live-action features based on the books, which you can read about inside.

Writing duo Larry Karaszewski and Scott Alexander are in negotiations to write the live-action big-screen adaptation of the children's horror series "Goosebumps" for Columbia Pictures.

Neal Moritz and his Sony-based Original Film shingle is producing as is Scholastic Entertainment's Deborah Forte.

Karaszewski and Alexander are expected to close their deal this week.

While straight-to-video versions of the R.L. Stine book series have been made, the project will mark the first feature adaptation of the series and could become a franchise for Columbia, which acquired the rights in May.

The "Goosebumps" series -- which comprises more than 50 books that often pay homage to classic sci-fi/horror movies such as "Night of the Living Dead" and "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" as well as the twist endings of "The Twilight Zone" -- have grossed hundreds of millions for Stine and Scholastic, second only to the "Harry Potter" series. Stine recently published a new 12-book series, "Goosebumps in HorrorLand," and Scholastic plans to launch a video game in the fall.

Moritz has said he likely will cast youngsters for the leads and then include well-known actors in supporting roles, a la the "Potter" films.

Karaszewski and Alexander are best known for their penmanship on "Ed Wood," "Man on the Moon" and "The People vs. Larry Flynt," the latter of which earned them a Golden Globe. Other credits include "1408" and "Ripley's Believe It or Not." The pair are repped by Endeavor.

Ok - well NO LIE I too am excited to heaar about this. Even though I was little TOO mature for all the GooseBumps books - I however was a big reader of STINE'S FEAR STREET series - which played out like mini supernatural/slasher films. However, I do like a well-made chilrens 'horror' movie - esp if it homages past classic horror!

Are the films to be based off of the books? Will they be individual books or combinations of them?

Sounds good to me. I remember reading these books when I was back in elementary school. My favorite Goosebumps book was "the mask."

I used to read Goosebumps all the time! I feel stupid in admitting I would love to see it adapted because I think I'm far too old for them. Maybe they'll do a really good Monster Blood movie.

This is great news! It seems strange that it took so long for this to happen, I have never met a person that didn't enjoy the books. Remember the Horror at Camp Jellyjam? One of the most underrated Goosebumps and personally one of my favorites. I would love to see a film version but i doubt they would pick that one. Oh well, then how about Night of the Living Dummy? That is probably more realistic

It would be sweet if they did a kinda grindhouse thing with it and did two movies with trailers in the middle of the two. The trailers could also serve as what next would be the way to go cause everyone would be on the internet sayin oh ot should be the vampire one or whatever then thestudio would know which to put into production.

Goosebumps was a pretty good gateway horror series for younger kids. I might be too old for this, but sometimes an episode will air on Cartoon Network, and I can't help but smile. The show might be watered down, but the situations have GREAT horror potential! A movie was be excellent!!

At my school there used to be an actual waiting list for the Goosebumps and Fear Street books, they were always out! I remember how awesome it felt when I would finally get my hands on one....I would always wait to read it till the bus ride home. :) ah, fond childhood memories.

WOW! This is really weird. Hollywood wants to cash in on Goosebumps. As long as they're not PG-13 shit. Make it PG and scary.
