After years of rumors, it looks like the cash is finally in the bank as U.K. satcaster BSkyB’s Sky Movies web has confirmed it will co-finance MTV’s remake of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.” Under the deal, the remake of the 1975 cult classic will premiere exclusively in the U.K. on Sky Movies before becoming available on VOD services Sky Player and Sky Anytime, according to Variety. Sky Movies partners on the previously announced project with MTV, Fox TV Studios, BermanBraun and Lou Adler, who exec produced the original which starred Richard O’Brien, Tim Curry and Susan Sarandon. Cast and director remain as yet unannounced.
If there ever was a movie that DIDN'T need a remake, it'd be Rocky Horror... horror remakes, however uninspired and unnecessary they may be, don't really bother me that much. Horror will never go out of style, the basic principles and scare techniques are primal. But something like 'Rocky Horror' is going to be a lot harder to adapt to modern mentalities... there's nothing special about transvestites today, aliens, or bi-curious madmen.
Well, they could maybe make it a bit more dark and gloomy - like the style of the nurses from the Silent Hill movie.
As long as they don't try to make it more humorous, because that WILL fail.
What's next? Apocalypse Now the remake? Natural Born Killers? Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas?
Now I won't be shocked to see a Passion of the Christ remake...Fuck. It's not that I don't want them to ruin a classic. The original was just okay with me. It's just pointless as hell to remake this.
please stop remaking films, Hollywood... especially shit like 'Prom Night' and 'One missed Call.' Just look through the coming soon list on B-D and see how many american movies are remakes or sequels... the most original stuff we get nowadays here is indie flicks, which usually aren't too great due to their budget is so low...
Not to be a stickler, but Fear and Loathing was a remake as well.
