UPDATE: Bousman Screams Wish, 'Give Me Leprechaun!'

Bousman responds inside... I swear it's like carnival day starring Darren Bousman, as the director of SAW II-IV has openly admitted that he would be interested in doing the next LEPRECHAUN film, and even has an idea of where he'd like it to go! Even though this would probably never in a million years happen, and is is clearly just wishful (pun intended) thinking, you can read all of the juicy gossip inside - you can check out Bousman's REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA in limited theaters November 7th.

Update Below:

Believe it, Darren Lynn Bousman insisted, telling MTV News that the project he most wants to do next is “Leprechaun.” No, seriously (but obviously joking a bit).

I would do ‘Leprechaun’ in a second,” the amiable Bousman laughed. “If Lionsgate is listening, give me ‘Leprechaun.’

Ah, “Leprechaun,” the 1993 movie that not only introduced us to a pre-“Friends” Jennifer Aniston, but also made sure Warwick Davis had steady work for the next decade. All clearly good things. “Leprechaun,” believe it or not, is actually filled with good things, Bousman said. But why in the world would he want to do one?

“It’s just one of those fun popcorn movies. I would love to bring back the fun popcorn movie - extreme violence, extreme absurdity - but make it fun,” Bousman said of his hypothetical take. [My version] wouldn’t be horror.”

In all, there have been six versions of ‘Leprechaun,’ the original and five sequels, the last three taking the titular Irish monster to “da hood,” “into space,” and, no joke, “back to da hood.” (Actual awesome tagline: “Evil has a whole new rap!”) So where would Bousman like to take the series next? Lucky for us, he’s already got an idea.

Back to the old west,” Bousman said. “You send him in a time machine and transport him to the old west. There are gold rushes. There are gunfights. It’s awesome! I have the whole thing already worked out!

I bet Warwick Davis is reading this dreaming (wishing) of his triumphant return!

DARREN responds via his MySpace Blog:

"Ahhh, the internet...

I awake this morning to see the net abuzz with my two attachments this morning - first to MOTHERS DAY, then to Leprechaun...

Jesus PEOPLE...

Come on... Seriously?

First off, YES I did say I wanted to revamp Leprechaun... But the context was in the form of a short film... I was approached to do a series of short films at one point. They were these comedy shorts. When I asked if I had any ideas I said "What about Leprechaun in the old west". As if this was some sort of news... Mind you, this was after Saw II.

While promoting Repo - people have asked me about it... I joke with all of them... HELL YES, Leprechaun in the old west...

I guess, I am a quasi public figure, so anything is fair game, but SERIOUSLY...

Got to go, having a meeting to discuss the remake of SLEEPAWAY CAMP!

much love,
darren"

ha, this guy is proven to be a hack. seriously, the only good thing he did in the entire Saw franchise was the editing of part 4, that was kinda cool. other then that, he did a good job running a franchise into the ground before it got a chance to get off.

I vote remake. Dark humor like the original had, with decent gore.

Every director has their childish side. I say let him do this. It can't be worse then yet another cliche we've seen a hundred times.

PLEASE NOOOOO! isn't this the film that Ali Lohan (Lindsey's scary sister) has been auditioning for? Bousman, you can do better than this. do the "Mother's Day" remake or something. or do another original movie.

If u ask me as a director he sucks, BIG time. The worst thing about the SAW films was the directing, it absolutely spoiled a franchise that could have otherwise been much much better

I'm definitely all for it, but what SOMEONE NEEDS TO TELL DARREN is that he DOESN'T NEED a time machine! He's had this idea for about a year now and I don't think anyone's brought this to his attention. The Leprechaun would have been alive and well during that time period ANYWAYS. A time machine is ridiculous, even too ridiculous for this franchise!

Better yet, after being blasted out into space at the end of part 4, the Leprechaun could get sucked into a wormhole and dropped in the old west. Cheesy? Absolutely. But to whoever said a time machine is too ridiculous for this franchise...have you SEEN anything beyond part 3?

I have to agree with Jacques let him do it. As garbage of a director I think this guy is, he cant make it any worse then the original was. If he does this then he cant F-up any other remakes that have the potential to be sic. Also why are most remakes based off the first one and a little of the others? Why not a remake of a sequel, just a sequel like Texas chainsaw 2 or maybe House 2, skip the first that would be somethin new.

well, i hate darren, but hes got a good point, leprechauns want gold.... the old west was full off it, however the time machine idea is crap.... just make it a prequal, and try to explain his beggings and tell his story, find out he ended up in the basement in number 1, i reckon its a fantastic idea really...

So (according to Bousman himself) bloody-disgusting is reporting on something that was said probably in 2005 (shortly after Saw 2), only three years too late.

ok, i know i'm probably the 1st fool to ask (since Bousman responded) but does this mean he really IS going to do Sleepaway Camp? i'd fucking LOVE to have him do it (if he's serious of course). i like the original and i think Bousman could make a GREAT remake. or course if he was just joking again, then i'm the 1st one to fall for it i guess! LOL

I really think Bousman is insane. I liked his previous work such as Saw II and Saw III, although disappointed in Repo getting in limited theaters. But this is just crazy.

You know, sometimes horror directors piss me off a little. Either you want to do a LEPRECHAUN film or you don't. Get a little success under your belt and suddenly you're too good for the very thing you brought up yourself a few years earlier? And, to make matters worse, he's got to take a swipe at SLEEPAWAY CAMP in the process of dismissing his own declaration as a joke! A fearless director wouldn't be afraid to tackle SLEEPAWAY CAMP or LEPRECHAUN, D.B. - even after they became "respectable" with a few theatrical hits.

I'm making an apology on behalf of darren lynn bousman's request, i do not "hate" him, i just don't think that he's made a couple of wrong decisions during his career which have made me hesident towards his work, but as a director i admire him.
