UPDATE: Watch it at BDTV: The movie came out of nowhere and now the marketing has officially begin. Inside you can check out the trailer and brand new still for Freestyle Releasing's supernatural thriller The Haunting of Molly Hartley, which arrives in theaters October 31st. Directed by Mickey Liddell, the film centers on a new kid in town who discovers that her troubled past might be a prelude to a more disturbing future. What do you guys think?
Why does this get a wide release but not Repo!? Anyway. This easily looks like one of the most cliche things I've ever seen. Still, it could be decent, I guess.
Some of you guys are seriously undermining "R" rated horror fandom and all its immensity. So, you're telling me that if this flick ends up being "R" (which, from the trailer, I highly doubt), a few of you would give this a shot? Dude, that's just being shallow. That, or your standards are too damn low. Hey, if you're indorsed in the flick based on the trailer, power to you. But damn, just seeing a movie because it's "R" when it looks and sounds as bad as this is a type of thinking I can't comprehend. It's like asking someone, "Why in the hell do you like 'Captivity'? It's dumb as shit." And they quickly respond with, "Yeah, but at one point that chick drinks that human milkshake." That's not even a reason, that's just being a lazy moviegoer. If you wanna see that ONE scene, watch it on Youtube. I don't even know what the hell I'm talking about anymore.
TheDeadMayTasteBad: I think it's mainly due to the lack of gore/violence in modern American movies. The other day I was thinking about every movie I've ever seen that I thought was gory, and honestly, I could only think of one or two, and I've seen most everything I've ever heard was gory. Hollywood gore is genetic. Limbs being cut off, heads cut off, blah, blah, boredom. I was born and raised on ultra-violent video games like Killer 7 and No More Heroes, which both have more blood and punk gore than most of the gory movies on this site COMBINED. Penises put in blenders, little kids being torn apart on giant drills, bloodsplatter that makes Kill Bill look lame, etc. But as Hollywood turns more genetic and gore-lacking, anything with even a minimal amount of violence seems more appealing than yet another PG-13 goreless movie. There is nothing this side of hell that could make me want to see this movie, but I can understand why others might if it were rated R. Supporting movie violence at any cost, no matter how minimal. Because, dude, I can count every truly gory movies I've seen in my life on one hand. If Hollywood sees violence sells maybe they'll put out more true gore. But I still wouldn't see this for the life of me.
There is a huge difference between gore which is integral to good storytelling, and gore which exists for cheap effect. In the late 1960's and early seventies movies like Bonnie And Clyde, Straw Dogs, The Wild Bunch, Soldier Blue, The Godfather, and even Night Of The Living Dead shocked with their extreme violence and explicit gore. Today they seem tame, almost quaint. The reason those movies and others like them are remembered now as classics is that they told compelling stories punctuated with shocking scenes. The shocks have been diminished over the years, but not the greatness of the movies. It's doubtful that 30 years from now anyone will be singing the praises of any penis blending movies. Sorry Jacques, your arguement just doesn't hold water.
Umm..I don't like torture porn. I could just see how this movie could be a fun little halloween fright flick which would probably be rated R if it had any on-screen death. I just could see this as also being a teen witch(?)-drama if it were rated PG-13. I'm not into penis blenders and people bathing in others' blood... Just fun slashers...
This looks silly. It looks like Lost Souls. And I'm guessing it's just using a bunch of jumpy moments to scare the viewers. Nothing scary; just jumpy moments, probably with loud noises. I'll be avoiding it.
The trailer looked interesting... for about 5 seconds. Seriously since MTV had the trailer first, the cast is full of teenagers, and cheap scares looks like a PG-13. This just looks so stupid. I think on Halloween I'll see Saw V again. This looks so stupid. This could be the next 'Prom night' and that's not a complement.
I saw a bllod pic of this movie so I'm hoping it's R but still judging by that trailer..the movie doesn't look anything special and besides it gives away too much.
Oh wow, a bloody frame. Guys/gals, for all we know that could be the only moment of violence in the entire picture. The trailer certainly makes it seem so.
this is just another flick of coming of age (and of horror) with some acting and little much else. This is definately not a gore film. If you want to seee gore, producers should come out with some more monster flicks such as Cloverfield or make a remake of Creature from the Black Lagoon. With the modern effects gore should be a standard.
