This summer, Anchor Bay Entertainment is doing its part to make the world a safer place with the theatrical release of the award-winning cult sensation Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer, followed by its DVD release on Oct. 7 – just in time for Halloween. Inside you can find full details and specs.

When you’ve got supernatural problems, who you gonna call? No, not the Ghostbusters – Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer!

Yesterday, he was a plumber. Today, he’s trying to save the world. Meet Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer. The legendary Robert Englund (Freddy Krueger of A Nightmare on Elm Street) stars along with Trevor Matthews (who produced the film, in addition to playing the title role) and Rachel Skarsten (American Pie Presents: Beta House, “Birds of Prey”).

As a young boy, Jack saw his parents brutally murdered by monsters. Now he toils as a plumber, is saddled with an annoying girlfriend (Skarsten), attends therapy sessions that accomplish absolutely nothing, and is enrolled in night classes where he barely manages to stay awake.

But when his professor (Englund) accidentally unleashes an ancient curse and begins to transform into a hideous monster, Jack must put down his plunger, prepare to do battle with the forces of evil, and confront his destiny. All Jack wants to do is put his past behind him, but some things just won’t stay buried …

Whether it’s repairing a broken toilet or saving the world from unspeakable evil, it’s a dirty job, but somebody’s got to do it!

A late summer theatrical release of Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer is planned, featuring engagements in major cities throughout the country. In October, fans can then ring in the Halloween holiday with a Special Edition DVD, with extensive bonus features that really do go behind-the-scenes (and behind the screams)!

Audiences and critics alike have hailed Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer as a new cult phenomenon. “If Jack Brooks was made in the ’80s, it would be a cult classic by now,” affirms Jovanka Vukovic, editor-in-chief of Rue Morgue Magazine. “Monster Slayer is only the birth of Jack Brooks and I pray we’ll see another dozen of these films in the future,” wrote Mr. Disgusting of Bloody Disgusting. “You want laughs, action, blood, guts, slime, creatures and a kick-ass anti-hero? You’ll find it all in Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer!” Drea Clark of Slamdance added: “I can’t get enough of movies like this, they remind me of early Sam Raimi and Peter Jackson.”

Quiet Earth raved “It [has] hot chicks, melodramatic acting, and plenty of fights. In short, it was a crowd-pleaser.” “If it was the explicit intention of this filmmaking group to kickstart a franchise with Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer,” observed Michael Gingold of Fangoria, “they’re off to a pretty strong start. But whatever they wind up doing next, this debut feature announces that it’ll be worth paying attention to.”

Following its North American premiere at the Slamdance Film Festival, Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer started knocking ’em dead around the world – as an official selection at such renowned festivals as Montreal’s Fantasia Film Fest, the Amsterdam Fantastic Film Festival, the Brussels Festival of Fantastic Film, the NatFilm Film Festival, the San Sabastien Horror Film Festival, the Kingston Canadian Film Festival and the Stockholm Film Festival. Recently, the film was named winner of the Carnet Jove Jury Award (“Midnight X-Treme”) at the prestigious Sitges-Catalonian International Film Festival, and a Gold Medal for Excellence in Film Music for composer Ryan Shore.

Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer was directed by Jon Knautz (Moment of Truth), and produced by Neil Bregman, Trevor Matthews and Patrick White. John Ainslie and Jon Knautz wrote the screenplay from a story by Ainslie, Knautz, Matthews and White.
