I respect your opinion, Mr. D. I wish to hell you didn't feel the need to inject it nine or ten times into EVERY single "news" item about the film, but I respect it. Of course, as I said before, HELL RIDE is intended to be a tribute to old school biker films, and if it's anything like the early reviews describe it, it's hit the mark spot on. So snarky little swipes at the film aside (and really, on a site that covers nearly every horror film released, is it possible that this is honestly one of the worst movies you've seen lately?), thanks for the coverage. Now if you'd only go back and watch THE HELLCATS, FIVE THE HARD WAY, SATAN'S SADISTS, THE BORN LOSERS, THE LOSERS, SHE-DEVILS ON WHEELS, or any of the countless other magnificently bad biker flicks of the 60s and 70s, so that you had some idea what HELL RIDE is supposed to be paying homage to, all would be perfect.

I doubt this movie is as horrid as you make it out to be. I'm actually looking forward to seeing this film. I've always been a sucker for biker movies.

Mr. D is right. This movie is a complete waste of time. If you're just looking for cheap thrills with lots of topless woman and the occasional full-frontal nudity, there are dozens of other films out that are loads more entertaining and not as annoying.

Honestly, have any of you guys bashing the movie ever seen any other biker films besides EASY RIDER and WILD HOGS? I read your criticisms and I think "Man, this sounds like a perfect tribute to movies like SATAN'S SADISTS and ANGELS HARD AS THEY COME!", which only leads me to conclude that you aren't fans of those unapologetically bad movies. They weren't good films, weren't well-plotted, weren't well-acted, weren't well made, and threw in lots of violence and (violent) sex purely for the sake of cheap thrills. And - this may come as a shock to you - they have legions of devoted fans, including HELL RIDE director-star Larry Bishop. If I set out to make a tribute film to MANOS: THE HANDS OF FATE and I make a movie that can be called by any objective standard "good", I have failed utterly and completely in my artistic ambitions. It sure sounds like Bishop was trying to make an authentic bad biker movie and succeeded famously. The puzzling part is why people keep trying to judge it the way the would a movie that is supposed to be good.;

Yes, I've seen plenty of biker exploitation films like The Losers and The Wild Angels. This film is still awful. Those films didn't know they were bad, this one knows it and tries to milk it for everything its worth. And its embarrassing.

But Horrorholic, the point is that Bishop and company were intentionally making a bad movie here. As you say, they knew it and did it quite deliberately. So if you're setting out to make a bad movie and you make a bad movie, you've succeeded. That's inarguable logic. It's true that most of the people here reading these comments won't get it, but that doesn't mean Bishop was any less spot on in his homage to awful biker flicks with his own awful biker flick. And if you honestly think that the exploiters and hucksters who made movies like SATAN'S SADISTS and WEREWOLVES ON WHEELS didn't know they were making cheap crap, you have a very romanticized notion of low-budget filmmaking in the drive-in era. Just because a few of them that are still around try to pretend they were striving for something great doesn't mean they're telling the truth. If the great Herschell Gordon Lewis tries to tell you that SHE-DEVILS ON WHEELS (his most profitable film, BTW) was anything other than a bottom-of-the-barrel cash-in, he is (with all due respect to the man) feeding you a heaping spoonful of bullshit.
