Update: We 100% confirmed the story with various sources, although, Natalie's publicist is reporting otherwise and ensures us that nothing is signed and/or confirmed. Watch for further updates. We heard some interesting rumblings this afternoon that we are trying desperately to confirm. What we've been told - and should be taken strictly as rumor - is that Handsome Charlie Films, which is headed by Natalie Portman (pictured inside) and Annette Savitch, will be producing the remake of Dario Argento's Suspiria. In addition, word has it Portman will topline the film that David Gordon Green is attached to direct. Green's PINEAPPLE EXPRESS hits theaters tomorrow. Remember that this is RUMOR until confirmed.

In Dario Argento's original a young American dancer travels to Europe to join a famous ballet school. As she arrives, the camera turns to another young woman, who appears to be fleeing from the school. She returns to her apartment where she is gruesomely murdered by a hideous creature. Meanwhile, the young American is trying to settle in at the ballet school, but hears strange noises and is troubled by bizarre occurrences. She eventually discovers that the school is merely a front for a much more sinister organization.

If done well this could be awesome! Natalie Portman would be great in a suspiria remake ... (although even the thought of a suspiria remake is disgusting)

No one could top Jessica Harper, but I'd be okay with Natalie.

Catherine Deneuve should play Madame Blanc...

I refuse to believe a "Suspiria" remake is in the works...

In general remakes are a complete waste of time. In this case it makes me want to throw this bloody computer across the room. "Suspiria" is untouchable, it is sacrosanct. This would be an abomination and an insult to any serious fan of the genre.

no it wouldn't milkman. you're stupid. a remake is a remake and it doesn't do anything to the quality of the original. we'll always have the original masterpiece and all these film companies can keep trying to put out a quality remake, whether they pull it off or not. Hollywood is out of original ideas anyway, so remakes are inevitable. i, for one, like Natalie Portman and think she could do a decent job.

I guess they don't have heating at red carpet premieres, in regards to the first picture. Ahahaha.

Is that the best you can do, that I am stupid? I said nothing about disliking Natalie Portman so where the hell did that come from? Also, I thought Green Undertow was a good movie. I could care less if Hollywood is out of ideas, considering most great films of the Horror genre are coming from France and Asia at the moment. To make these remakes seem a waste of time and money that could be much better spent, it's just that Hollywood would not pay directors/writers who want to step outside the fucking box and do something unique and original. If Aja's remake of "Into the Mirror" is his own vision it might have merit. As long as you guys pay money to see this shit they put out there will be no original ideas. I am just stupid and could if a rat's ass whoever thinks so.

Too bad Natalie Portman is a Cunt.

never seen the original but the movie storyline sounds good even if it is being remade. might have to go and check out the original...dont really care for natalie portman as actress.

The only problem I see with any Suspiria remake is the Americanized version will feel it is necessary to explain everything. The beauty of European and Japanese cinema is that sometimes you have no fucking idea why things happen, they just happen! The studios think American audiences need answers to every question, even the ones that haven't been asked. That's why a movie like The Strangers generates such buzz- there's no answers, just unpleasant questions.

Never heard of that director Greenshit, but Natalie would be the perfect, if not the only one to do the lead. Maybe Rob Zombie or George Lucas should direct.

wow, that would be awesome!! maybe a nude scene. lol.

this can't live up to the original - one of the greatest horror films of all time. but to join the remake debate, i don't mind them at all. i can still enjoy Dawn of the Dead while getting cheap thrills from the remake (same with TCM, Hills Have Eyes, The Fly, etc) of course some are crap but lots of films are crap, it doesn't desecrate the original in the slightest.

Eh. Whatever happens, I'm not insanely excited or insanely against it. Whatever.

eh, the thing is about horror remakes is that they're innevitable. So I just try to look at them as unbiased as possible. Theres been a few good ones...okay...maybe a couple...but this one seems it will be a winner. I trust Natalie Portman, I dont know why, but I do, and the fact that Green actually REALLY wanted this, and isnt just a throw on director, makes me think that he'll do a faithful remake. Guy's you just got to look at remakes as "homage" to the originals

Actualy, I can name quite a few remakes that blow the originals out of the water. Some of the . . . of the Dead remakes beat the originals, as well as The Hills Have Eyes remake, and The Ring remake. All beat the originals by a long shot. This may be the same.

Another pointless waste of money. Studios fuck around proper horrors like Midnight Meat Train, yet are quick to remake classics and turn them into shite!

I don't give a shit if Audrey Hepburn comes back from the dead to star in this, do not remake this movie!

Misanthropeinaction

I'm not what you would call a fan of Portman but I don't have anything against her either, though I'd much rather see her do remakes of bad films and leave Suspiria alone... Maybe she could start with Star Wars I-III...

She has said before she had no interest in being in a horror film. I guess after Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium she wants to make a film that doesn't flop.

I just don't understand why one would remake what many consider - mtself included - to be a flawless masterpiece of horror. We as fans should be insulted. I wonder if Dario has any say in this? If, and only if , he signed off on it will i stop bitching about it. Then, of course, i would question his sanity. Why stop here, let's also remake Deep Red, Tenebrae, Opera, Phenonmenon and then we can start remaking Bava'a films.
