This morning we received a very peculiar email from a reader who calls himself 'Quaid'. What was inside was a piece of art and a story behind the work, with the word DREAD capitalized. Could this be the start of a viral campaign for the latest Clive Barker "Books of Blood" adaptation, which is to be directed by Anthony DiBlasi in September? Inside you can check out the Dread art, or click the title for a synopsis of the story.
This is a picture I painted of a girl named Abby. She has a port-wine birthmark covering half her body: her leg, her stomach, her breast, her face... Abby's going to participate in our fear study - going to share with us her deepest DREAD. Abby learned at a very young age that she would always be an object of scrutiny... she confided in me, and all she wants is to be normal. Would you like to be part of our fear study?
I really don't think Dread is feature film material; the story itself (I thought) had a weak ending and there really wasn't much going on. But hey, they made The Midnight Meat Train (though it will be awhile before I get to see it, damn-it!).
