The boys over at Twitch Film have posted the first official trailer for the incredible, gut-wrenching French horror film, Martyrs (review), which will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival's "Midnight Madness" this September. You can take a look at the film inside, or click the title for a bunch of stills. The film tells the story a girl who emerges from a yearlong abduction and forms a bond with another girl while in recovery.
French horror rocks, can't wait. I only hope it doesn't go to far well not further than Inside anyway, I don't think I can take more than that.....Or can I??

I saw MARTYRS in Paris 3 weeks ago (preview).
What to say ? well, you can forget all what you saw before (consider Saw or Hostel as children entertainment)
I saw tons of horror movies, but this one knocked me out : yes, it goes very very far (Maybe INSIDE is much gore, but MARTYRS is so much more traumatizing).
Believe me, this flick CAN'T be released in US without a NC-17 (and you know all problems it had here in France)
Be prepared, you won't forget MARTYRS , it will haunt your soul a long time after wathching it !

I'm from France and here, we don't have like very much our movies, because if you see there's not a lot of good horror movies (The Alexandre Aja's movies, Frontiers, Inside, well that's all..., if you don't count the 70's of course) But, I have to admit that we are very proud of Martyr. I even don't see the movie yet, and I know that it's already a masterpiece. By the way, where they are with the saw series in USA, Saw 542, right ? Oh, I just got it, it's not movies anymore, it's a TV show...
Not my kind of film. But I do respect what movies like this, Fronteirs, and Inside are doing. My only question is, realistically, how far can these guys go? I mean at one point, aren't people going to get sick of it? And if not, and these guys keep going further, their movies getting critical acclaim, what's that going to say about the people watching?
ashesdivide, i understand what your saying, but keep in mind, for every Frontier(s), Inside, Martyrs (etc) we get, there are like 20 Prom Night 2008's. yuck!
so it's not like we're being inundated w/ these films every week. we're stuck w/ PG-13 shitfests. so a brutal, exciting, visceral film like this is a nice thrilling change (at least for me).
I'd like to ad sommething about MARTYRS : in fact, I don't think it's a movie you like or you love (but you can hate it, it's definitly not for the faint of heart).
At the end of the movie (I remember the last 20 minutes, quite unbearable), It was like someone gave me a big slap in the face and I asked myself "well, what the hell did I saw?".
In fact, you will live an experience , but a tough one !
the french are killing it right now, the movies they are putting out now surpasses all the movies in the j-horror wave. inside was the best horror movie Ive seen in a long while, them was good, irreversable was very good. I cant wait to see this film.
