I just arrived home from the San Diego Comic Con to find a few news still revealed at the con. Inside you'll find your first look at Sony Svcreen Gems' Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, which feature Golden Globe winner Bill Nighy as evil vampire king Viktor and the new leading lady, Rhona Mitra, who replaces Kate Beckinsale. The prequel is set in the Dark Ages and traces the origins of the centuries-old blood feud between the aristocratic vampires and their one-time werewolf slaves, the Lycans. Hot chicks in leather, werewolves and vampires return to theaters January 23, 2009.
Why would anyone want to see this movie if kate beckinsale isnt lead role ? waste to see the movie if all the people from the first 2 arent in it then its not even a sequel!
From what I've read Rhona Mitra is playing the part of another vampire, not Selene (I think maybe she's replacing Zita Görög as Amelia)... This is supposed to take place before Selene was even turned. One good thing about Kate Beckinsale not being on-board and Len Wiseman not directing is the fact that Michael Sheen actually gets to have some screen time. Sucks when the director of the movie you're in is banging your woman who happens to be the main star. Long live Lucian
Rhona is playing the part of Sonja, Viktor's daughter who fell in love w/ Lucian, which in turn started the Vampire/Lycan war. this is a prequel, the 13th Ghost.
I first heard this was going to be a direct to dvd release. Either way I will watch just out of curiousity. Loved the first 2 films. But they also had sexy Scott Speedman. Kate Beckinsale was actually NOT annoying in the films. Not a big fan of hers outside these. But I do enjoy gothic, dark films. IF they're done right!! lol....
I was hoping for something original, given the setting. But looks like it'll be the same movie, just with some other chick inserted into the lead role. More werewolves please, they really stole the show in the last two. But the filmakers were so bias towards the vampires that they could never accept that.
would like to see maybe the golem or frankenstiens monster raise hell in one of these, hell i'll even settle for ghouls like the ones touched on in blade.
Can't wait for it! Rhona was awesome in Doomsday, so this will be nothing new for her. She's one of those underrated actresses/actors who rarely get a major starring role, so movies like Doomsday and the third Underworld are welcome entries into a sometimes dull Hollywood.
She looks *hilarious* in that suit of armor -- no tits at all and a ripped six pack like some surfer dude. If you want dude-sex, go for it. None for me, thanks.
