During an interview with Wes Craven to promote his upcoming film 25/8, the writer-director updates reporters on the status on a bunch of his projects. First, he has not been approached for the A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET REMAKE, which Platinum Dunes has also yet to sign for. The remake to PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS is likely and could be his next project - there is no take on the next film yet. A SHOCKER remake could one day happen, but not likely. On a sequel to 25/8 is tells us that it was planned as a stand alone film, like ELM STREET, but jokes "not everyone is dead at the end of the film."
I'd love to see Megadeth's version of "no more mr. nice guy" make it into the Shocker remake. Wont happen, but that's one of the things I loved about that flick.
Heh heh, yeah as much hype as the mere suggestion of a Scream 4 has caused. Ya'd think that would have been ahead of the Elm Street remake on the list of things to ask him about.
BREAKING NEWS! : Craven says he is up for a fourth scream!!
My last experience [with the Weinsteins] was kind of rough with “Cursed” so it would have to be under very very controlled circumstances,” he revealed to MTV News while promoting his new film for Rogue during Comic-Con, “25/8.” “Cursed” of course was indeed a very troubled production. Massive re-shoots and battles over various cuts ended with a financial and critical dud meekly passing through theaters for a virtual instant.
The news of a new “Scream” film isn’t altogether surprising. Just recently it was reported that the Weinstein would begin developing a fourth installment. But it is news that Craven would potentially be a part of it. Clearly watching his words very carefully, Craven told MTV News, “There has been talk between Bob Weinstein and me about doing another ‘Scream.’” Pausing a moment and the master horror director smiled, “I don’t know whether that’s been made public so I’ll deny this. I never said it!” Sorry Wes, we have it on tape.
Don’t line up for the theater just yet though. Contrary to various rumors over the years, Craven does not have a storyline in mind. He does know however who he and the Weinsteins would turn to for the next tale. “It would be with [original "Scream" screenwriter] Kevin [Williamson]. Bob [Weisntein] always liked that combination.
OMFG!!! how good is that!
25/8 is definately another one of Craven's "Elm Street" attempts, just like Shocker. And as for the other news, so, he's going to remake People Under The Stairs? Wow!!
I am with 13th Ghost on this one. The people under the stairs had a shit load of potential...I never felt it was done right.
