Are you ready for a big tease? In the new issue of Entertainment Weekly they released the first ever image from Friday the 13th, which features a very tiny look at Jason Voorhees! You can check it out inside. Arriving in theaters February 13, 2009, the pic directed by Marcus Nispel is the retelling of the original Friday the 13th about teenaged summer camp counselors that are systematically slaughtered by a mysterious killer. Jason Voorhees will wear the mask and kill, keeping the famous setting of Crystal Lake. Leave your thoughts below!
from what i can see, jason is a counselor himself hidding behind a mask. he doesn't look anything more than human. so whats his motovation, everyone is having sex and he can't get it up so he decides to put on a mask and kill them all cause he aint geting no tail? of course the pic is small so you can't really see any real details. why is the water the color of gator aid? no disrepect to anyone who is really looking forward to this, but to me this version of jason looks a bit lame.
I hope this is some kind of joke. First we hear we're finally gonna see Jason then they give us this ridiculous faraway shot. THat's the weakest looking Jason I've ever seen. That jacket makes him look too skinny. It looks like he weighs about 150. The girls in the movie will probably beat his ass. I like the look of crystal lake. They must know they messed up his look, that's why they give us this ridiculous pic. It makes me want to take Derek Mears off my myspace friends.
i'm glad they aren't showing a close up of Jason's face/body. they shouldn't show him clearly up close til the movie opens. why ruin everything from the movie by showing it to us before hand.
You can't really see anything. It doesn't even look like he's wearing a shirt. The only thing that looks good from a distance is the mask. The jacket does look a little large.
i read somewhere on Movieweb.com that he's going to be wearing a prosthetic chest piece or something. that could be (along w/ the jacket) what's making him look "fat on his upper body area".
I remember reading an article somewhere, maybe fridaythe13thfilms.com, about Jason's new look. It mentioned him having a hunting/military jacket and a shirt underneath with holes in it, revealing skin. It's hard to judge because of such a small image of him, but to me, it looks like the article was right.
It's not what I expected in my mind...but I think Derek Mears will put the fear in Jason Voorhees again.
The movie probably won't be as good as the original, but I bet it won't be that bad. This pic is a little to vague to be saying the movie will suck. And of course he's gonna wear the stupid ass winter coat. What do you want him to wear? A speedo?
I just can't get past the "Mist/fog" in the trees. Is this really necessary? I mean this looks like a daytime shot for crying out loud. Of course.......I could be WAY off, and it could just be an out of control campfire.
i definitely looks like a daytime shot but they might be planning on using a darkness type filter to make this scene dark. like they did in the opening scene in Jaws and many other films.
Not a very good picture. Looks like Jason was "added" to the picture. And I had a thought about the sack and mask both being in it, just a thought but maybe Pamela will where the sack, and maybe thats the big "twist" in the first 12 mins, its gonna be the end of the original. I am probably wrong though.
This is like trying to figure a shot of bigfoot or something. Nothing is clear enough. He almost looks like a teen himself in this picture. I wonder how hold he is going to be in this "Re-Boot"
not really happy with the picture. you cant really tell much about how the new jason looks except he's smaller than in the previous movies. i also hope the lake is bigger than it looks, because it's crystal lake, not crystal pond lol
jarofsap, i think you might be right. that would make sense(IMO). the girl obviously sees the guy. maybe she thinks it's her boyfriend or friend (who was wearing the mask/jacket earlier) and instead it's jason? or it's her friend and Jason soon after this scene/pic kills him and puts on the mask and jacket?
I'm not knocking him wearing a jacket. Jason wore a jacket in FvsJ and it looked fine. In this shot he looks like a lanky high school kid wearing a jacket from the big and tall store. What's with that pink/orange shirt? Is he a killer or a skater punk?
pretty disappointing... and what the heck is up with all the smoke? I hope they don't give it that dam hollywood-ish look like they did for the TCM remake where the lighting and effects were so rediculous.
I was so looking forward to this movie as Jason is just THE MAN when it comes to wasting a bunch of usless kids. At any rate I now feel I know the "twist". As Mrs. Vorhees gets beheaded, Hanna Montana jumps out of Crystal Lake and kills Alice with two Flares. She then drops to her knees as the sun goes down with flares burning when she realizes a hockey mask buried in the dirt!!!!!!
i know that this says it's Jason, but maybe it's NOT. maybe as i posted earlier, it's a different character wearing the mask that Jason kills. Jason then keeps/wears the mask.
Water looks CGI, Jason looks like he stole Marcus Nispel's fur coat and why do I give a shit? Oh...I don't.
This will obviously suck in everyway, as the TCM remake did. We ARE further along in the horror boom right now than we were in 2003 so I do have some hope that this will be atleast more intense and true to the original. But from what I've read, this is just another big budget shitty re-imaging that no one will care about 1 year later.
-Retro Horror Remix
djblack you might be right. The girl is facing him maybe he's joking around with her. Jason may kill the guy take his mask then go in the lake and kill her. That'd be a great debut. She's swimming, having fun, thinks her b/f is about to join her, after seeing him joking around in the hockey mask, while she's underwater, Jason slaughters him, takes the mask. I have to hope that's the case. That look is just too stupid. Michael Bay mentioned about transformers that he throws alot of false info out there to fool internet fans, let's hope he's doing that with this, but then again it was in EW so maybe that's not the case.
I really don't think thats the "real" Jason, looks like some punk ass kid fooling around with the girl in the water. If this is really Jason though... then fuck this shit, he looks fucking stupid, I hope thats not the case though.
Uh, that's an on set photo, not a frame from the movie. The time of day, lake color, smoke... everything will look different on film. So quit crying.
I'm not sold on the coat tho. But I am glad theyre not showing him too clearly yet. It doesnt even open for over 6 months!!!
A bit of a tease; really does nothing but fuel more theories and speculation.......'if you look REALLY close you can see an S-Mart employee tag'....blah blah
Wow some of you people are judging the whole movie off of a far away small ass pic of jason. You must be really smart to know the whole plot and style of the film by the size of a small pic. I am so sick of people who think they know everything. We havent even seen a trailer and JasVoor13 is saying they messed this up. That might be her boyfriend joking around with the mask then he gets killed by jason and thats how he gets the mask.
of course they have to make it the farthest away shot ever... so he's like a cm tall... i'll wait till i can actually make him out to judge. but from what i can see, looks good.
I´m so sick and tired of remakes, specially of a franchise which ran out of juice long ago.
God Damn It. ANOTHER FUCKING FRIDAY THE 13TH???????????????
GIVE A FUCKING BREAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!
oh and
Derek Mears was required to wear full body make-up from the chest up while performing his duties as Jason Voorhees. As Mears describes it, he wore a chest plate with fake skin that would move to all muscle movement; he also wore a fake hump on his back, and was given a variation of scoliosis. A prosthetic eye was glued to Mears's face to allow for realistic movement. For his wardrobe, Mears was given a pair of combat boots and a "high priced t-shirt" that allowed the special effects make-up to be seen through the holes in the shirt. The jacket Jason wears in the film was created by combining a hunting jacket and a military jacket – Mears wanted the hunting jacket, but the creative team liked the way the military jacket, which was longer, billowed as he was making his "kill movements". The top of the hunting jacket was removed and placed over the top of the military jacket. Mears characterizes it as a "giant Frankenstein jacket". After problems with the fake nails that he had to wear for the part, Mears grew out his own fingernails for filming. Mears describes Jason as being leaner in this film, because he does not eat as much. A "leaner" Jason was deemed more functional, with more emphasis on the hump on his back.[16]
Mears always related to "Jason the victim" when he was growing up as a child, and that was how he wanted to portray Jason in the film. To the actor/stuntman, Jason represents all those individuals that were picked on in high school for being outcasts of society—specifically those with physical deformities—only Jason exact his revenge on those that are trying to take of his territory (Crystal Lake). When Mears went in to audition for the role he was asked, "We really need an actor for this particular role. Why do we need an actor as opposed to just a guy in a mask? Explain that to us." To Mears, portraying Jason was similar to Greek Mask Work, where the mask and the actor are two separate entities, and, based on the scene, you will get variate combinations of mask and actor in the performance. According to Mears, it is all based on whether you realize that everything is made of energy, and if you are thinking something then it will transfer to what the camera picks up. Mears also relies on the people behind the camera, which he likens the experience to a NASCAR race. Mears is the driver and the effects team is his pit crew. As he is performing the role, the effects team will provide subtle suggestions as to ways that he can bring the character more to life on camera.[16]
For this film, Jason's intelligence and thought processing is more defined. Mears likens the character to John Rambo, Tarzan and the Abdominal Snowman from Looney Tunes. Jason is like Rambo because the audience will see him setting the other characters up to fall into his traps. Like Rambo, he is more calculated because he feels that he has been wronged and he is fighting back. He is meant to be more sympathetic in this film
it's just a picture people.....let's wait for the film and hold off on the whole 'getting disappointed' thing. plus the picture looks fucking awesome anyways!!!!!!!!
Remakes. I don't care anymore. fuck em!
the only thing I can say about this pic is that it is actually a nice composition. It could be a stand alone photograph that evokes a pretty creepy feeling.
cool great bd gift to me! wish would of went on here yesterday would of made a beter gift! glad to see anything new from f13th remake. even though aint a fan of remakes, but love jason.
Japanorama....Kane played Jason 4 times in the 4 worst Friday movies! Thank you Kane for your role....But LET IT GO MAN! Kane's too old to play him anyway, he's 52 years old! Ok, back to the subject of this picture. Why is Jason wearing a jacket in the first place? IT'S SUMMERTIME!!! Can't really judge too much from this pic....but from what I can see, he looks pretty similar to Freddy vs. Jason.....I knew that they would have the fake fog in this! I get more & more disappointed with this movie. I have that feeling that this movie is just gonna be full of Friday the 13th cliche's. Michael Bay said in his interview w/Entertainment Weekly that this movie is gonna be scary & funny too. Why do they keep stressing that this movie is gonna be funny? What we want to hear is that this movie is gonna be scary, and that's the first time I've heard anybody say that! I feel that they are concentrating too much on stuff that shoudnt matter. Just give Jason the "Classic" look from The Final Chapter" damnit. Dunes will realize how big the fan base is, this is Friday The Fu**ing 13th!!! You don't touch a franchise like this one and not come correct. How many times have us Friday fans been disappointed?
I just got the issue, and scanned in the image, got a huge photo of Jason. Scaled it down a bit, but you can see Jason more clearly. Hope I can post a link here: http://www.shiversofhorror.com/forum/index.php?topic=3177.m sg50471#msg50471
I hope this is better than the original because I didn't really like the 1st and personally thought the 2nd was the best of the series. Hopefully this is better. It appears it has the potential.
I think he's holding something in his left hand. the jacket on his right side doesn't look that long while the right side looks long. Looking closely at it, it looks more like he's holding something.
Well if you look at it, the machet def isn't pointing down. In front of his leg is probably grass because it doesn't like up with the hand. ALTHOUGH, if you look behind his left elbow there is a little flair, that could be the tip of the machete. But i was saying he's holding a bag or something too...he looks lopsided on his left but fine on his right. Anyone else see that?
In my opinion it may NOT be JASON. In Friday the 13th part 3 Jason got the mask from Shelly. Yeah he looks pretty skinny so if anything it is not jason and could be the prankster of the group like shelly was in part 3. I dunno because they are supposed to be useing elements from the first few movies and think it may not actually be Jason.
In the excerpt from the EW picture, Michael Bay says "This scene doesn't end well." Maybe he attacks the girl in the lake ooorrrr he attacks the guy with the mask after she get's back in the boat. hmmmmmmmmm
disappointing is an understatement! This still looks like it's from a sh*tty pixar movie!! i pray to god this is a fake because I have never seen a movie still look this bad before. And I hope the lake doesn't look pea colored either.
First of all, KANE HODDER WAS THE WORST JASON EVER. as far as jason being toO skinny, how can you tell from that distance anyway? At least he's not a fat pig like kane hodder was. I THINK IT LOOKS GREAT AND THAT THIS REMAKE WILL ROCK! I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE IT!
That's hilarious!!Kane Hodder was the worst?? I'm saying he looks too skinny because of that bigass jacket he's got on. It makes him look like a little kid wearing a big person's coat.
Horrorfan I'm saying they messed up his look, the movie may be decent. Think about it, if you made a character in a movie look badass, wouldn't you show it off? We're told we're gonna get to see a pic and they advertised it as a "first look at Jason Voorhees" then they show him from far off. I also wrote later on about maybe the guy shown is a guy that Jason takes the mask from. Before you single out someone read all of what they say instead of picking and choosing.
Well that is a normal looking lake. That's how the lake behind my house looks. In part 3, in the last shot, they show a closeup up the lake, it looks like it does in this pic. I hate to disappoint the people commenting that think that pic is photoshopped, It isn't He doesn't look anymore photoshopped than she does. In the descriptions of what Mears had to wear, it descriped him as wearing a "high priced t-shirt." THat fits with that awful t-shirt he's sporting with that coat 2 sizes too big. They said they like the way the long coat billowed as he made his killing movements. Ladies and gentlemen, as much as we may wish otherwise, this is our new Jason Voorhees.
I hope the actual movie keeps the look of that picture. I don't want no dumbass overly blue tinted filters that MOST horror movies use nowadays. The TCM remakes used a yellowish tint, that made it horrible(IMO). Keep it clear and natural color, like the original Ft13.
Ok looks good... But I agree with the person who said the lake looks like the color of gator aid... I hope that was just a glimpse becuase that looks ok but that's all.. Just ok.
Know what I just realized? They wouldn't want to spoil Jason until Comic-Con, it has to be that girl's dream or something, maybe she was told the story of Jason, and that's her dream interpretation of him.
He doesn't look as 'wow' as the Jason I know does, but I know he'll have to grow on me, I never wimp out "I hate the series now because......." so they better have this movie welly made
CAMPBLOOD 1980 I agree with everything you said. I couldnt have said it better myself. My expectation for this film decreases every time something is leaked, and this is no exception. I hate how they emphasize the "fun" aspect of the film too. Bay is the first one to ever refer to the film as being scary.
Are you sure this is a pic from Friday the 13th and not Born on the 4th of July part 2?
Where did all that smoke come from, was he setting off fireworks?
Why does he have a heavy ass afghan over his shoulders? Dude, if they mess this up, I'm going to be so mad.
Gone are the Jethro Bodean look of part 2, the overstuffed mechanic ensemble in part 3, and the varying degrees of moldy zombie chic of 6, 7 and 8. This Jason is a clothes horse! I can't see them but I don't doubt he's sporting some bitchin' flip flops.Seriously though, new millenium, new series, new producers and actors, new look-all good. As long as guts still spill out the same I'm pretty psyched.
I agree with JasVoor13. This is our Jason, like it or not. And SERIOUSLY guys how can you make such snap judgements on a movie's plot, theme, and anything else from the very first glimpse of just one frame of the entire film. Give me a break. Get a life.
i stand corrected, THIS is indeed Jason (and not her boyfriend or friend playing a joke w/ the mask). a HI-RES CLEAR image is online here:
http://www.shocktillyoudrop.com/news/topnews.php?id= 7022
Actually that shock til you drop picture isn't that bad. That's in no way as bad as FvJ. I guess he's holding a knife but still has the machet on him too. Weird.
Thank you so much djblack1313, Steviris and Shocktillyoudrop.com. After seeing this close up image, I am major excited. It's Jason alright and creepy too. I think Derek Mears is gonna rock! As far as Kane Hodder goes, I think that Jason looked the scariest in Part VII: The New Blood...with the torn wet clothing and bones showing...and you have to admit that Kane made Jason the killer that he is today....Awesome!
Holy shit! I am a huge Jason fan and man this Jason looks like a pussy, Derek looks way to skinny to be jason! But just one pic is not going to ruin the excitement for me ! A pic is a pic they are good and bad. We have 7 months till it hits theaters so we got alot to see before then.
that looks freaking wicked, i love this pic and i so do not feel one bit sorry for the person in that lake, they know not to mess with jason but they do it anyways! :-p
TEXAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this movie should have been shot in NJ!!!!!!!!! Blairstown where the real one was filmed, my home town I must add. I have always been proud of it for that reason.
