Trailer for Regent Releasing's 'Cthulhu'

I refuse to post this on the front page as not only does the trailer look like crap, but so does the movie. I seriously can't believe Regent Releasing is putting this in theaters August 22... If you head on over to Yahoo! Movies you'll find the trailer for CTHULHU. Directed by Dan Gildark, the film stars Jason Cottle, Scott Patrick Green, Cara Buono, Tori Spelling and Robert Padilla. Adapted from a story by H.P. Lovecraft. A Seattle history professor, drawn back to his estranged family on the Oregon coast to execute his late mother's estate, is reaquainted with his best friend from childhood, with whom he has a long-awaited tryst. Caught in an accelerating series of events, he discovers aspects of his father's New Age cult which take on a dangerous and apocalyptic significance.

Doesn't look like it has anything remotely to do with Call of Cthulhu. What a waste. I wonder what Lovecraft story it's supposed to be based on?

Gee... doesn't look THAT bad, except - are they gay? I think it's based on the Lovecraft 'mythos' and not on any one story.

On one hand, it won first place at the Lovecraft Film Festival (they given the prize to some pretty good shorts before). On the other hand, it has Tori Spelling. The horror...

While not looking nearly as 'horror' as "Dagon" (personally, my favorite Lovecraft creation so far), I think its got some 'suspense' potential... and Im grateful for some more Cthulhu oriented material to take in... but WHY TORI SPELLING??? I can only hope that wont ruin this...

Why are they calling this Cthulhu? It's clearly more Dagon-ish.

"They came out of the sea...and killed...lots of people!" Best. line. ever. LMAO. Actually, I like the implied gay aspect of the film. I'd watch it if it were on Sci-Fi and I was really bored on a Sunday afternoon.

I love hps work read all of it and have to admit trying to put his vision to film would truely difficult, but compared to alot of the crap mr disgusting raves about this i think could be pretty cool or it will blow chunks, i don't see any middle ground here on this example.

I think using "crap" to describe the trailer or film is a bit harsh, because it really doesn't look that bad. You can tell the horror is very subtle and will probably have a slow build up, but I don't mind that in movies. My only complaint would be some of the bad lines I heard. Mostly the "They came out of the sea..." one.

I think I'll stick with the Silent film version of "Call of Cthulhu" at least they had obviously read Lovecraft's work. This trailer almost makes me embarrassed of my Cthulhu ink...almost.

Yeah, this isn't based on Call of Cthulhu, and I think it looks pretty cool. Tori Spelling is a strange choice but maybe she'll die horribly in the movie. Think Paris Hilton and House of Wax, I thought that turned out splendidly. Been looking forward to this movie for years, best thing to tide me over until del Toro finally does "At the Mountains of Madness".

But..... is there any Cthulhu? In their Cthulhu movie? ......at all? Any? Misleading title? Maybe? Dammit.

Did some checking, and the filmmakers say they were inspired by "Shadow Over Innsmouth," and the Lovecraft Cthulhu mythos. I also note that Lovecraft authority S. T. Joshi says "Fabulous - the essence of Lovecraft.. maybe the best Lovecraft adaptation I have seen to date." I find the trailer quite good and intriguing. I don't think Tori Spelling has a key role - is just a distraction for the character played by Jason Cottle.
