This week's Horror In Your House is pretty huge and carries a bunch of films you might want to rent, or even purchase. Some highlights include MGM/Fox's ASYLUM, the indie apocalyptic-comedy THE BEACH PARTY AT THE THRESHOLD OF HELL, Sony's INSANITARIUM and Fox Home Entertainment's Unrated release of SHUTTER. Read on for the full list

ASYLUM (2008): MGM/Fox

Six unsuspecting college co-eds discover their dorm was once the site of a notorious insane asylum infamous for conducting gruesome lobotomy's on its teenage inmates during the 1930's. When the dorm begins to echo scenes from its torture chamber past the beautiful heroine questions her sanity and if she will make it out alive.

TEX SAYS: Ever wonder when that NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET re-make was gonna hit store shelves? Those of you tempted to check out this latest flick from SNAKES ON A PLANE schlockmeister David R. Ellis better be prepared for a seriously derivative production. Of course fanboys of DISTURBIA starlet Sarah Roemer won’t care either way.

THE BEACH PARTY AT THE THRESHOLD OF HELL: Arts Alliance America

Visions of who will rule in a post-apocalyptic United States clash wildly between competing bands of survivors. This clever and dark satire is an insightful meditation on the nature of power corruption and flesh-eating women.

BLACK WINE: Indican

Do you know who you are sleeping next to? Whatch what happens in this noir thriller that blends classic Hitchcock with modern chills! Under the spell of the lights of the big city, young lovers Trevor and Ashley have just become engaged But their lovely moment turns into a Dreadful nightmare as they are assaulted. The unlucky couple turns the tables on their assailant leading them down a dark and twisted path, where the hunted become the hunters, friends become enemies and your lover just may kill you!

GUARDIANS: Lightyear

Twilight Cove, a small forgotten town, is under siege by hideous creatures summoned into our dimension by a group of occultists. Soon the creatures will develop an army to wreak havoc on the world. It’s only a matter of time. Using their cunning skills and unconventional weapons, THE GUARDIANS are the only people capable of battling the mutating creatures and saving mankind from their infestation before it’s too late.

INSANITARIUM: Sony Pictures (TEX’S PICK OF THE WEEK)

Jesse Metcalfe (DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES) stars in this horrifying thriller about a man who cons himself into a mental hospital in order to break out his beloved sister. Once inside he discovers that a doctor is mercilessly using his patients as lab rats and is turning them into bloodthirsty killers. Trapped inside an inescapable labyrinth will they find a way out before the relentless cannibals hunt them down?

TEX SAYS: A psychotically amusing little flick from MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN scribe Jeff Buhler also features my personal favorite wacko actor Peter Stormare chewing up more scenery than that woodchipper in FARGO! It’s not gonna win an awards for originality but it’s still a stupid-fun little thrill ride!

L'INFERNO: Ship to Shore

The first known full-length Italian feature film L'INFERNO is a surreal and beautiful nightmare of a film. Inspired by the haunting images of Gustave Dore and based on the classic literary work Dante's INFERNO this gothic epic follows Dante Alighieri as he is lead by Virgilio through the nine circles of hell. This silent phantasmagoria will sink into your brain permanently as images like Lucifer gorging himself on human bodies amidst a frozen wasteland and men holding their screaming decapitated heads towards the heavens unfold. Less like a film than a dream from another planet L'INFERNO has left audiences breathless since it was first unveiled nearly one-hundred years ago.

TEX SAYS: I’m a sucker for silent films! So…if that sentiment rings true for you too, then I say we both check out this 1911 Italian flick! It looks awesome!

POISON SWEETHEARTS: Tempe

On the depraved streets of Cleveland, young women are dealt hard lives. Trudging through days of filth, poverty and crime, they do what they can to survive. Women backed against a wall—mistreated and abused—now, see them strike back with horrifying vengeance! A beautiful dame forced to sell her body for her pimp. A sweet 16-year-old girl starved for affection that turns to a pair of smooth-talking breakdancers she meets in the park. The kitten who sacrifices her freedom to care for her drunken, degenerate father. Witness these blood-soaked stories and more in a cautionary tale of what happens when innocent women are pushed too far!

SHUTTER: Fox

A picture-perfect honeymoon develops into a snapshot of terror in this bone-chilling shocker from executive producers of The Grudge and The Ring! Soon after New York newlyweds Ben and Jane arrive in Japan for Ben’s latest photography assignment, they discover disturbing, ghostly reflections of a young woman in their own photos. This inexplicable “spirit image” may be connected to Ben’s past, but she’s determined to provide the couple with a horrifying future of relentless vengeance from which there is no escape!

TEX SAYS: Hey…it’s pretty awful all around, but it’s still better than ONE MISSED CALL! But just by a hair…one long, jet-black, soaking wet, lock of hair.

STEEL TRAP: Weinstein Co./Genius

A New Year's bash in an abandoned high-rise building turns into a grisly bloodbath when five guests receive a mysterious txt invite to a VIP party on the 27th floor. Joined by two crashers the strangers soon realize they're trapped and the only way out are the twisted clues left by a murderous psychopath. The catch? Each game leads to one of their own gruesome deaths.

SWAMP THING: THE SERIES Volume Two (4-disc set): Shout! Factory

The First Half of the Epic Third Season Finally Comes to DVD! The incredible adventures of Swamp Thing continue with this 4-DVD set, containing the first 25 episodes of the series’ 50-episode third season. Based on the legendary DC Comics character, the USA Network commissioned a total of 72 episodes of this cult favorite that aired 1990-93. The series follows the tortured creature that was once a man on his quest to regain the humanity that was taken from him, purging the swamp of evildoers along the way.

TRAPPED ASHES: Lionsgate

In the twisted tradition of classic anthology horror films such as TALES FROM THE CRYPT, KWAIDAN and DEAD OF NIGHT, TRAPPED ASHES features five stories of the surreal erotic and terrifying directed by five of Hollywood's most unique filmmakers: Joe Dante (GREMLINS) Ken Russell (ALTERED STATES) Sean Cunningham (FRIDAY THE 13th) Monte Hellman (TWO-LANE BLACKTOP) and John Gaeta (Oscar winner for Visual F/X on THE MATRIX Trilogy).

TEX SAYS: Check out this highly uneven series of films for the third installment STANLEY’S DREAM from the great Monte Hellman. It’s totally worth sitting through the other three sex-obsessed episodes to check out this succubus story with a Hollywood twist.

VOICE: Genius

While training after hours in her high-school the aspirant singer Park Young-eon is mysteriously killed and her body vanishes. Her ghost is invisible and trapped in the school but her best friend Kang Sun-min who broadcast in the lunchtime in school is able to hear her voice. After the suicide of their music teacher, Sun-min aided by her mate Cho-ah, finds that another student Hyo-jung died in the school elevator some time ago. Meanwhile Young-eon recalls details of her life disclosing why she died.

TEX SAYS: Shot in 2005 this 4th entry in Korea’s WHISPERING CORRIDORS series is a surprisingly effective mystery drama…unfortunately for you gorehounds the bloodshed here is very restrained and fleetingly brief.
