This past weekend Bloody-Disgusting had the pleasure of chatting with Fabrice du Welz, director of the popular CALVAIRE and the upcoming Vinyan (trailer), who revealed that his next film might be an adaptation of Maurice Leblanc's 1919 novel, THE ISLAND OF THIRTY COFFINS. Read on for the skinny and watch for a full interview this week.

While chatting VINYAN, Fabrice du Welz tells Bloody-Disgusting exclusively that his next film will be an adaptation of a classic book from 1919, THE ISLAND OF THIRTY COFFINS.

"I’m working on a book adaptation called 'L’Île aux cerceuils' (COFFIN ISLAND)," Welz explains. "It’s a period movie quiet gothic. [It's] a great story... still in process… we hope that start the production next year."

COFFIN ISLAND is a Maurice Leblanc book from 1919 entitled THE ISLAND OF THIRTY COFFINS and also an 70' TV adaptation with Claude Jade.

The action takes place in 1917 (between 813 and the Dents du tigre), it recounts the adventures of Veronica Hergemont to find her father and his son, found dead in 1902, Arsene Lupin did indeed that when the plot is properly installed.

This novel mixes policeman, fantasy and science fiction.

The Island of Thirty Coffins has been adapted into television series, produced in 1979 by Marcel Cravenne with Claude Jade in the role of Veronica, and Arsene Lupin which is totally absent. See The Island of Thirty Coffins (soap).

The television series, in co-production French / Belgian / Swiss 6 to 52-minute episodes, aired from September 21, 1979 on Antenne 2.

The action takes place in 1917. Veronique Hergemont east of a young woman of 35 years, became a nurse at the military hospital in Besancon in an attempt to forget a past that haunts the past 14 years. This tragic past catches up with Hergemont when Veronica discovers his personal label (V H) in a film screened at Besancon. Shocked, because knowing that nobody, except her, her father and Vorski not aware of this signature, it undertakes research in Brittany, where was shot. His research will lead on the trail of his father and his son who, while everybody was believed dead, had taken refuge on the island of Sarek, better known in the region as the Island of Thirty Coffins. Upon his arrival, the nightmare begins...

Messages enigmatic, a frightening prophecy, terror superstitious islanders, brutal deaths ... Veronica soon finds himself alone on the island, without means of escape. Until she discovers the truth ... Vorski, which had been declared dead, is on the island. He manigancé everything in order to capture the fabulous treasure of Sarek, the legendary Pierre-God.
