This week all of the studios will be sending in their schedules for this year's San Diego Comic Con. One of the big pieces of news to come in this morning was that Warner Bros. Pictures will have their Friday the 13th panel on Sunday, July 27th from 1-1:30 in Room 20. Stars Jared Padalecki and the new Jason Voorhees (Derek Meaks) will be on hand with Platinum Dunes producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form. Word on the street is that we'll see the trailer debut there, B-D will be on hand to report. In addition, we were supplied with the following synopsis: Retelling of the original Friday the 13th about teenaged summer camp counselors that are systematically slaughtered by a mysterious killer.
this "new" synopsis makes it seem like they are just redoing the original movie and NOT combining key parts from the 1st three. in other words (IMO) this new synopsis is misleading. but either way i'm pyched as hell to see this movie!
If Jason's in it, it won't be just redoing the original......the hood/bag (part 2) and the famous hockey-mask (Part 3)...I understand what you mean though djblack...it does leave you wondering.
So it will be a mash up of the first three or four movies. So whats jasons origin and motovation to do what he does in this one, the first original had a rhyme and reason.
Although the Original still holds up, I think the new Jason will add to the character. The first few movies didn't really have a solid identity for the big fella until C.J. Graham and Kane came along. They added a certain cadence to Jason's stride, and made him a lot more menacing (if you ask me.) Although I am disappointed that Mommy Voorhees isn't the 'lead,' most people do not identify the series with her as the killer, so it makes sense to bank on you money maker, goalie mask n' all.
I think they're doing 2 acts or a big prologue for the remake. It has been stated that Mrs. Voorhees is indeed in the movie (flashbacks? Prologue seems better). Jason will wear the hood and the hockey mask (like HorrorFan1978 stated, Parts 2 and 3). After the prologue we'll start off with a new direction and have elements (kills etc.) from the first 4 movies. But that's just a thought, so yeah!
Well, Halloween was expected to be the way it was because of what Rob Zombie did with it. Wanna get a feel for how the Ft13 remake would be like, watch the TMC remake(director who is doing Ft13 remake) AND Freddy Vs Jason(writers who wrote the Ft13 remake). I'm hoping for the best, though I totally dislike Shannon and Swift because of FvJ. They seem to have the habit of churning out the most terrible joke lines I've EVER heard. They aren't funny, nor witty, just BAD! Fuller gave us a taste of one of the lines that will make it in the Ft13 remake, and it was just as bad. To me, they are the equivalent of hot chicks with annoying voices. Shannon and Swift should stick to just horror, and not even TRY to attempt comic relief. Just like, "Shhh, don't talk, baby! Let me just admire you without that ear grating voice shrilling into my skull!".
God I hope it's not like the TCM remake, I absolutely hated that. Leatherface getting is arm swiped off with a rusty 30 year old carver. I'm just too biased for the original though.
i agree with dj......hey as long as this film stays true to the original f13th ill be a happy camper (lol)......better be less the stupid joke lines and more blood and guts. i just hope that it lives up to all of the hype and not screw up my fav. horror movie series
Jason is human and he's more of a mountain man in this one. Living off the wilderness and stuff like that. He supposed to be meaner and a little smarter. I am hoping to make it down to San Diego on that Sunday.
This just proves that there is no originality left in the world. The Halloween, Psycho, and Hitcher remakes were terrible films- insulting to the originals. Personally, I would have gone for making that next sequal that takes it back from cheese and camp, to terror and gore. This movie isn't so old that it doesn't play well today- so a remake, much like the Halloween remake, is a waste of time. Any REAL fan of the series will not waste their time with this one.
AND BY THE WAY! FvJ- at the time of the team up, both series had been known for their cheesy, campy, unreal stories and characters. If you went into FvJ expecting something other than camp, you set yourself up for a huge let down. Those of us that expected the same corny-ness of the originals, loved it.
That's just an umbrella synopsis. It can take 5 minutes to retell and re-imagine an entire saga in a movie. There are going to be flashbacks that will give a new and deeper understanding to the characters. But with references to original ideas that have been part of classic horror movie lore for so long, and with everyone involved seeming to be totally committed it looks like Friday the 13th could be as good as your personal favorite of the franchise thus far. And Richard Booker is the best Jason to date. Can't wait to see Jason actually don the hockey mask! I wonder if THAT will be a flashback as it looks pretty weathered in the photos. Yeah. I'm psyched.
im stoked about the remake, i wonder what the first 12 minute twist is? does anyone recall jasons dad being mentioned?
