We caught wind of a pretty awesome looking thriller from France entitled MELODY'S SMILE (Chambre des morts, La). Directed by Alfred Lot the film has a pretty thick plot that doesn't sound all that horrifying, but if you check out the trailer at the film's official website the last frame carries a shocker that makes me think this could be a foreign SE7EN. Read on for a look at the synopsis.
work computer programmers run a man over, killing him. By his body, they find a bag stuffed with cash. Bank robber? Drug dealer? Who cares? Two million euros staring you in the face. No witnesses. What would you do? Call the cops or cash in on your good luck? Vigo and Sylvain don’t take long to make up their minds. The following day, a blind girl is found dead in a warehouse near the scene of the accident. What if the money was destined to pay her ransom? Did the killer see the hit-and-run drivers? Then another girl is kidnapped, and worse, she’s a diabetic. The clock is ticking. The police in the provincial town of Dunkerque start to panic. They are ill equipped to deal with such crimes. Helped by her attentive colleague Norman, rooky cop Lucie embarks on her first major investigation.
Am I wrong in thinking the literal translation of the French title is Room of Death?
Looks good, and the concept has a touch of the Coen Brothers to it.
Yeah, MikeOutWest, I don't speak French, but the Latin roots of the words appear to mean Chamber of Death. AKA Room of Death. I guess they're trying to give a different impression of the film to American audiences.
it has a little bit of >a simple plan< in its plot. cool. but i dont know what they were talking in the trailer - i dont speak french and there were no subtitles. can someone translate what is going on?
