The Digital Bits broke the news on a I Am Legend: Ultimate Collector's Edition box set will be available on both DVD and Blu-ray Disc, and will include an alternate version of the film with the "controversial ending," all-new special features such as a new filmmaker commentary, deleted scenes, "iconic" premium collectible items and more. Read on for a pic, watch for a street date.
Let me get this straight. Warners Bros. made people buy the 1-disc edition because it had more to offer than the 2-disc. But people bought the 2-disc already. Now the company expects people to re-buy a crazy huge box set. Good thing I didn't buy I am legend or else I would have been so mad.
Would make more sense if they, somehow, had the rights to re-vamp (heheheh) the first two versions and include them, as well. The only reason to get this is for the director's commentary. And with a huge studio flick, the director is more likely to NOT talk about the clashing of egos regarding the stupid ending. Blech.
Ihave seen both endings....why the hell was the one where he gave the vampire girl back to the other vampires so "controversial"? Maybe I'm missing something... The box does look very nice, but I can't see myself buying it.
They should digitally remove those stupid CG vampires and insert real actors. That might make this Ultimate Collector's Edition worth having. Loved the first half, hated the rest. I'll take The Last Man On Earth or The Omega Man any day.
The ending is "controversial" because the studio thought it would hurt the box-office. Americans like the heroes to kill the bad guys. Not agree to disagree.
I could see GRINDHOUSE, KILL BILL, SALO, or several other things getting this kind of deluxe treatment. Instead we get this. :(
