Today the first official teaser trailer was found online for Scott Derrickson's The Day The Earth Stood Still remake, which arrives in theaters December 12th, 2009 from 20th Century Fox. In the original 1951 film an alien lands and tells the people of Earth that they must live peacefully or be destroyed as a danger to other planets. Keanu Reeves, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Kathy Bates and Jaden Smith all star, read on for a look, and no, water won't kill these aliens...
Can we all Say BORING, Twilight zone,x-files movies come on are we going insane these days, the original was not bad just old. Lets see what it brings .
I like the line, "you should let me go" and was happy to see Gort! The whole my feels...is an intersting part, is he a projection of a greater whole, a body we would recognise and relate to? is thr real whole him Gort, or the sphere? Is he a piece of a doomsday device? Good teaser!
It looks like it might be decent, but it also looks like it should've gotten a different title. I remember Klaatu having a friendly and inviting demeanor for the most part; not this fake brooding, mugging for the camera, music video bullshit. And no matter how old Keanu Reeves gets, he still sounds like a 10th grade high school burn-out every time he opens his mouth. And that alone sabotages any chance he has of convincing anyone that he is an ambassador of the most superior intelligence in the whole of the cosmos, here to spread peace and unity. They simply did not think this one through.
Well for something that hasn't caught my interest, this was interesting to say the least. That shot of the deteriorating truck was pretty cool. I wouldn't call myself a fan of the original, but I have seen it. This could be cool.
I loved the original movie. And I generally HATE remakes. But this trailer seems to indicate that they are taking the story in a whole new direction and that is most definitely a good thing; simply re-shooting the original film would be a mistake. Looks pretty good! For a movie coming out almost a year and half away, it looks pretty complete.
Well, the original was a warning against atomic weapons. Given that Earth Dies/You Die line at the end I wonder what hot button issue Hollywood is going to pound us over the head with in this one. Hmm... Could it be global warming? No, it couldn't be!
never seen the original so i cant judge the remake. i like keanu reeves and jayden smith is a good young upcoming actor givin who his dad and mom are! ill prob. see this granted i aint a huge fan of remakes. ill give this a chance. (i did like the tcm remake and i am loving all of what i hear from the friday the 13th remake that comes out next year).
keanu reeves acts the same way in every movie, that's what i hate about him... And i agree, this movie looks like the War of the Worlds remake a lot! The thing about these remakes is that it's done badly. If you watch old sci-fi's you'd notice how the movie is FILLED with dialogues. It felt natural in some odd way. The remakes aren't focused on creating interesting dialogues between characters, they are only interested in showing how "koOl" today's special effects are... The original "The Day the Earth Stood Still" had soul behind every frame shot... This one has keanu reeves haha.
Cheers
The original was a conformist flick represenitive of the times. Naturally the new one should be different.(even though for the most part it's far easier to conform people than ever before.) What do you want a shot for shot color redux??? Then you would bitch that it wasn't original. I will give it a shot, it's been awhile since someone tackeld sci fi that wasn't Star Wars or Star Trek action adventure type.
I loved the original alot.... reeves is a decent actor... but this puts a new twist on the movie... just as long as they have gort thats all i care for... this looks like it is goin to be a global warmin kind of deal.
This looks good. I cant wait especially when I'm a huge fan of the old one. That and several other scifi 50's classics. I think keanu will do a good job in this film. But as long as the heart of the film is the same as the old one it will be good. Now maybe someone will remake The man from Planet X.
DAMN DAMN DAMN! I'll Have To Find It Elsewhere, The Original Is Still One Of My Favorite Classic Sci Fi Movies
