While on the red carpet for the Saturn Awards, website Collider chatted a bit with Cloverfield director Matt Reeves who talked a bit about the possibilities of a sequel, which J.J. Abrams recently implied he might not even want to make. Reeves does confirm that the sequel to the smash-hit giant monster movie is on hold and that resurrecting the beast ultimately it depends on if they find a good idea to make it worthwhile. Fingers crossed as we were big fans of Paramount's film here at B-D. Click here for the full interview, which is quite lengthy and reveals a bit more.
Good. The vague speculation for specific sequel ideas were sounding like poor quick attempts to cash in. I wouldn't mind a sequel, but I want them to take their time. A "re-shoot" of the first from a different perspective would have been lame as hell.
I agree with ArchVile99. A sequel would be great, but they need to take time and not make it the same night with different people. Personally, I would love to see what the parents of the monster look like and would like to know the whole origin of the monster(s).
Great news. I hope they never make it. Maybe someone can come along and make a real monster movie while they are gone. I want a man in a suite stomping on cardboard buildings swatting toy planes out of the sky. Not some CGI bullshit mystery movie with viral nonsense spread all over the internet.
i'm curious, just because Reeves & Abrams don't feel like doing the movie, does that mean someone else (better) CAN'T do the sequel. i mean, Danny Boyle didn't do 28 Weeks Later. Juan Carlos Fresnadillo did an incredible job w/ that one. so an even better Cloverfield movie could still be on the horizon. Paramount's not going to let a moneymaker just stay in limbo.
Whats the point of giant monster movies when you don't see the giant monster? the viral campaign was way more entertaining than the movie! Some body step up and show them hows it's done! This movie made big money( movies and directers that under perform get sequels and imitaters.) so there will be more jj may be pushed aside by the studio or simular projects will happen.
I'm so tired of people crying about not being able to see the monster...god forbid you have to use your imagination a little...what made alien & aliens so effectively scary was that you could barely see the damn thing...I've always been more frightened over whats implied than what's just thrown in my face
I really want to see a sequel from Cloverfield, it was a racing experience in the cinema. But if they want to take some time to make a cool script, I can wait for it.
So they're waiting for a really cool idea before they make Cloverfield 2? Here's one on the house: Just remake the first one without the whole friggin' shaky camera point of view thing! I really wanted to like this movie but wound up looking at the theater floor for more than half of it.The Blair Witch Project and Diary Of The Dead made use of the same concept without inflicting nearly as much skull shattering pain on their audiences.
You come to think of it jj ripped of the movie zokkar the invader, it was giant monster flick you barely see the monster, you hear about it on a car radio but thaat is about it. the other thing that cheeses me is the bit jj said about heroes, lost and cloverfield all happening in the same universe(like comic books)but the only in we got was a ep of heroes with some characters slurping slusho...and his broad bold statement of giving america an inconic monster like japans godzilla. If you can't do what you promised then do even bother to try! really how cool would it have been to have darma involved or the monster responsible for the crashed plane on lost or slusho the cause/effect of the super people in heroes??? How about being able to go 7-11 and buying a frosty slusho? Underwhelmed as usual...
I have an idea. Godzilla vs. Cloverfield. It will be Godzilla searching around the city for an hour and a half cause no one can see the damn thing. Of course when he finds it, he'd kill it in two seconds. Also, if "Cloverfied" is from the deep regions of the ocean...how can he withstand the different pressure/atmoshphere? Geez...i don't think JJ thought to hard about this one.
Cloverfield is ALIVE!!! All you have to do is watch this interview to realize that it IS going to happen. I have no idea how anyone can hear Matt Reeves talk about the sequel without realizing that being "on hold" is another way of saying, 'We want to make another one that's REALLY as GOOD as the first one was.'

Fuck this shit. I knew this would happen. They all got caught up in their own momentum and didn't have shit to show for themselves.
