Arriving on DVD and Blu-ray July 8 in both rated and unrated editions is Paramount Home Entertainment's The Ruins (review), which was directed by Carter Smith and stars Jonathan Tucker, Jena Malone, Laura Ramsey, Shawn Ashmore and Joe Anderson. The film is a stunning horror thriller, that follows four American friends on vacation in Cancún, Mexico—Jeff, Amy, Eric and Stacy—who meet a German tourist, Mathias, and persuades them to join his hunt for his younger brother, Henrich, last seen headed off with a new girlfriend toward some ruins. The four soon regret their impulsive decision after they find themselves lost in the jungle and freaked out by signs that they’re headed for danger.

This was a harsh and bleak book, the movie had a bit of silly ending though, how the hell did the girl get past the natives???? A hang nail for a sequel??? It would be fun to see the plants spread or get to different area, a Blood Beach type of affair perhaps???
wasn't bad. The acting was a little weak from the usually dependable Jena Malone but overall it was pretty good. Buying this depends on what features and extended scenes will be on the DVD.
