Don Mancini Spills Dirt on 20th Anniversary DVD of 'Child's Play'

I would be shocked if a Blu-ray release doesn't come the same day as the 20th Anniversary DVD release of Don Mancini's Child's Play, which will be jammed with brand new extra features. This weekend SpookyDan caught up with the writer of the classic 1988 film, which starred Brad Dourif as serial killer named Charles Lee Ray who transfers his soul into a doll to hide from the police, only to end up as a late Christmas present for a little boy.

Chucky fans should rejoice, earlier this week we spoke with writer Don Mancini about the upcoming 20th Anniversary Edition of CHILD'S PLAY on DVD… and yes, it's completely loaded!

He told us that DVD, which arrives at retailers on September 9, is loaded with extra features thanks to Producer Michelle Gold. Still no word yet on of we'll get a Blu-ray edition.

Here are some details:
- Commentary track with creator/writer Don Mancini and producer David Kirschner.
- A second track with FX guru Kevin Yagher, Catherine Hicks (Kevin's wife; they met on the film), and now-grown-up Alex Vincent.
- A third track with Mancini and Chucky (Brad Dourif voicing in character).
- The film itself is presented in the long overdue 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen.
- Making-of documentary blending archival footage with new, on-camera interviews with Mancini, Kirschner, Yagher, Hicks, Vincent, Chris Sarandon, John Lafia and Brad Dourif.

The strange absence of director Tom Holland is very unfortunate. I hope they get a chance to add a commentary track from him as well. We heard through the grapevine that he is excited to be a part of this disc, and had not yet been asked (Michelle Gold… can you make this happen?).

Watch for an official announcement soon.

I'd buy it for the Chucky track alone!

Holland's absence isn't really strange. He's had a problem with the fact that he had to share writing credit since the flick was released.

This is gonna be awesome, I just know it. This really is a fun movie, and I've been holding out buying it just in case something like this happened.

Are all these so called extras really nessary??? personally i find them dull, but a lot people get pretty excited over them, i just like the movies, not to concerned who and how and the little stories of the production. deleted scences and extend or uncut can grab my attention and sometimes my wallet.

I love movies, but I'm not a geek for them, if you go for all that pat on the back commentary thats cool, it's just not my cup of tea. Plus i seen the flicks so many times, owning another copy would seem pointless, though i do have a good friend who is a super dvd collecter, he has thousands of them, in every format and edition they can crank out. It's his thing and he's thrilled to have them. Cool beans nothing against him or any of you.

By: SpookyDan ..."Brad Dourif as serial killer named Charles Lee Ray who transfers his soul into a doll to hide from the police, only to end up as a late Christmas present for a little boy." SpookyDan have you ever seen this movie? Andy recieved the doll as a BIRTHDAY present from his mother. She couldn't afford the doll at retail price, becuse she didn't know he wanted it in time to save for it. And when "that bitch who had it coming" found a peddler in the alley had one for sale she bought it cheaper then retail.

Awesome! It's about time they offered it in its original theatrical aspect ratio. I've only been able to see it like that on the HD pay channels.

Thank god I decided I shouldn't spend the $10 to buy the current edition. (Because I didn't want fullscreen, and the zero extras.) I am deffinitly buying this, this is one of the few that scared the crap out of me when I was a kid, and now I love all of 'em.

Hopefully a Blu-ray release will be announced for the same day. I don't want to have to buy it twice.
