It was teased about a month ago and now it has been officially announced - FACES OF DEATH is coming to both DVD and Blu-ray on October 7 in a special 30th Anniversary Edition thanks to the return of Gorgon Video!!! The film rocks a new HD transfer (none of that fake bullsh*t, are you listening Fox?) and new never-before-seen features! Read on for the full press release.

THE LEGENDARY ‘FACES OF DEATH’ TO BE RELEASED ON OCTOBER 7TH, 2008 –
ORIGINAL SHOCKUMENTARY IS BACK WITH A 30TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION BLU-RAY DISC AND DVD

Called “the ultimate taboo tape” by Entertainment weekly, Faces of Death is the most controversial, critically reviled and fastest selling documentary in home video history. Parents tried to stop it. Video stores had to hide it. Yet across the nation, millions found ways to secretly watch it…if they dared. Renowned pathologist Dr. Frances B. Gröss is your guide to the most bizarre and grisly death scenes ever recorded, from executions, assassinations and mass murder to suicide, disease and disasters. Three decades later, is it hardcore gross-out, elaborate hoax or still the ultimate forbidden movie? One thing is certain - you will never forget the original Faces of Death!

October 7th marks the re-launch of the Gorgon Video label and the release of Faces of Death on DVD and Blu-Ray. Boasting a new HD transfer from extremely rare vault materials, this is Faces of Death like it has never been seen before. This release includes never-before-seen features that will lift the veil on the most discussed and debated documentary in history and is presented in 5.1 Audio/2.0 Stereo. Bonus features include a feature-length documentary with director Conan Le Cilaire, who has never publicly discussed Faces of Death, “Choice Cuts with editor Glenn Gurner” featurette, “The Death Makers with Special Make-Up FX Creators Allan A. Apone and Douglas J. White” featurette, and Faces of Death trailers, outtakes, and deleted scenes.

he he, we used to have to ask for a copy in secret at our local vid store, they'd go into the back and grab it.

I've never seen any of these...not my thing I guess. Back in the day, everybody was saying all the deaths were real, and no matter how much I love horror and gore on film...something that is supposed to be "real" I didn't find entertainment in. Off course now that the truth about the scenes is revealed, I might like them more.

This film is the story of my life! Gawd, I have such fond memories of going to old video stores when I was younger trying to find all of these. There were many different versions of cover art for the original 3 films and at the time there were many lesser (but more graphic) "shockumentary" films. Movies like "Traces of Death", "Death Scenes", "The Many Taboos of Death", "Dying", "Executions" and "The Amazing, Shocking Asia" all proved to be much more graphic and sometimes easier to find than the ACTUAL original FOD films. Faces of Death III was my first exposure to the series, I rented that (on a 2-for-1 deal) with the "Amazing Shocking Asia". I remember FOD 3 had HORRIBLE tracking issues (but I still dubbed it none the less) and Amazing Shocking Asia made me really sick to my stomach and actually scarred me for life! I will NEVER get those images out of my head. Everyone thinks FOD is all real and hardcore and stuff but they haven't seen ANYTHING until they witness one of the other mentioned titles. They were lower budget, so they couldn't film "faux" scenes like FOD could. They had to use ALL REAL stuff and the Asian tapes were always more brutal...I MEAN BRUTAL! However, I can't wait to obtain this new release, especially for the new features - an interview with the Director?!?!?! Holy crap that's awesome. I'll feel like I'm 13 and I just conned my mom into renting this for me all over again!;) -Retro Horror Remix

Ah, "Shocking Asia", I've got a copy of that one deep in my VHS archives. There is another similar to the "Death" movies called "Death Faces". I saw that years ago at my sister's house one night. We'd just gone to a Metallica concert & stopped by this old Mom n' Pop video store that stayed open all-night. The movie started with a woman eating maggots & other crap. My hearin' was a little impaired due to the echoes of ultra-krunchy metal riffs. Those were the good ole' days!!! "Life is a zero-sum game"----George Carlin. (RIP)
