No!!!!! Oh man, this hits like a hammer to the stomach. Stan Winston, perhaps the greatest special effects artist in the history of American cinema, has left us at the tender age of 62. Oh man, I can't even describe my facade. He will be dearly missed, such a creative and brilliant man.

Very sad news - but I hate to say this: The word you're looking for is 'BARRAGE' not mirage. (a mirage is an illusion) STILL - CAN'T BELIEVE IT!

This is terrible. Obviously everyone else has said what I planned on saying (he was great, Jurassic Park, The Thing, Terminator, blah, blah). This is truly sad. Just the other day I was watching one of the featurettes on my Wrong Turn DVD and thinking about how great it would be if by some miracle he came back to do Wrong Turn 3, should it come to fruition. This is really, really terrible.

THIS IS HORRIBLE!!! I'm so sad right now. My heart, thoughts, and prayers go out to his family. May he rest in peace.

Totally unexpected. What a bummer.

Horns up. \m/. He is responsible for THE best action, sci-fi and horror effects EVER, period. Nothing has surpassed Jurassic Park in special effects in the entire 15 years since it's release. The man was a genius. This is extremely sad, he will be sorely missed in this disgusting age of poor digital effects.

Damn I met him at Fango's NJ Weekend of Horrors a year ago. I had him sign my Pumpkinhead DVD. He was really nice. He's absolutely one of if not the best in his business.

I first meet Stan Winston about 10 years ago at a Fangoria after party/halloween party in Los Angeles. I was a Student from Joe Blasco at the time and shook his hand. Funny since he was dressed in a Leather S&M outfit (with chains) with a leather village people hat (true story I swear to god). I even did a quick intern in his shop cleaning out molds for Jurassic Park. He was a nice man that loved a good practical joke. I haven't even thought about him until picked up his book a couple of weeks ago. Sad to hear about his passing.

This so breaks my heart to hear this. I've loved and admired this man for so fucking long. He was one of the truly great FX men.

R.I.P. You will be dearly missed. You were loved by many, and respected by all. we love you Stan Winston. p.s. - The wolfman from MONSTER SQUAD was molded after him, so if anyone wants to pay some respect and homage, I would watch that film...they were phenom.

In the Film business, there are few peers Winston had in the Make Up FX biz. The word 'Legend' gets tossed around a lot lately, and not many of people are deserving of that title. I think it's fair to say that the film industry lost a Legend in Stan Winston. I am grateful that his work will live on forever through the films he made special with the work he put in to every project. Goodbye Stan, you shall be missed by many.

His work was so organic it never felt like you were watching prosthetics, latex or animatronics. And in interviews he never lost sight of the fact that he was a fan first. What a terrible loss for the FX community.
