B-D Review: 'The Happening' Fails to Deliver the Goods

Today we've added our official review for The Happening, which is now in theaters everywhere. "Here's the real shocker, the statement that will blow all of your minds... this is one movie that you will be hoping for a twist ending! When there's nothing happening for 90-minutes (other than some random deaths), all you can hope for is a finale that sends you out of the theater smiling, instead you'll walk out perplexed as to what you have just witnessed, which is Shyamalan failing to deliver once again." Click the title above for the full review and watch for a second opinion first thing tomorrow. Don't forget to click here and write your own reviews - tell other B-D readers what you thought!

you know I am really pissed. I had no idea what could possibly be making these people kill themselves; i even got to the point where i thought it may even be about the second coming of jesus killing all sinners slowly in a mass wave. then i read a :SPILER: and it says that it is about plants revolting spewing out a deadly pollen slowly disorentating and druging people to kill themselves. ARE YOU F*@KING KIDDING ME!?! PLANTS KILLING PEOPLE BY POLLEN? :END SPOILER: god damn it i have never been sooo disappointed in my life. i see no point in seeing this movie now. sorry, i dont like the plot.

Hey GoliathSlasher, if that's really what happens in this movie, then my ass wont be going to see it!! It sounds like the dumbest plot to a movie ever.....even more so than the stupid plot of "The Village" (which was also Shyamalan piece of crap). To me, the only good movie he has ever done is "Signs". The only reason I liked that movie, was because I laughed my ass during it. There was more humor than terror in that movie.

Sorry B-D. Based on your review of 'The Strangers" which I really liked and you did not, tells me I may in fact like "The Happening". But I'll wait to judge of course until I see it. M. Night's best movie "C'MON", has got to be his first "Sixth Sense". Great plot with one of the best plot twist endings ever. Now, the rest of his movies I agree have been Crap (Lady in the Water, The Village) or just ok (Unbreakable, Signs). I'll give it a chance.

not a big fan of his last few. the sixth sense wasnt a twist either, by the way. as soon as bruce willis was shot it was obvious he was a ghost. i'm not gonna bother going out to c this one. Unbreakable was my last Shamylan theater viewing.

I saw the movie a view days ago in a german theatre, during a press-preview and I (sadly) must say, you are absolutely right. The Happening is so lame, all you can do is hoping for a great twist ending which save the sad rest of the movie, but nothing. Nothing? Disastrous! Phony dialogues, bad acting (including Wahlberg) and strange behaviour bye every person! Watch the trailer again and wait for the DVD or just donīt watch

Mr. D, I always have respected you, even when in some films, opinions and reviews I totally disagree with you... With that being said, I only ask you; What did you expect??? It's Frigging Shyamalan!!! The guy hasn't made a good film in years!!! The only difference between Shyamalan and Uwe Boll (besides beating critics) it's that no one has faith in Boll, but they both waste money and resources on terrible films!!!

No wonder the studios made you interview Shyamalan BEFORE watching the film, otherwise I know you would have ran him down...

If that bit about Marky Mark and Descahnel running through the field is literal, than this movie is an uncredited remake of the 80s cult clasic BLOODSUCKERS FROM OUTER SPACE... only less fun. I had a strong feeling this one would fail to deliver on the suspense front and already planned to wait for DVD. Maybe I'll just skip it completely.

Ever since I figured out The Sixth Sense during the first part of the movie, this guy cannot deliver on storytelling and twists since they are very predictable. Why would anyone put themselves through his stuff over and over again? This film should be called Nothing since nothing is happening in this film anyway just like the rest of his stuff.

It's interesting how the studios are heavily advertising The Happening in this site yet it receives a very bad review. Kinda makes them a laughing stock

appleOFdiscord, i really have to disagree with you there. there are plenty of movies that get advertised on BD and receive negative staff reviews, but still do very well and are enjoyed by many of our readers. it's the same case all over with magazines, websites, newspaers, etc. just because one person has a negative opinion doesn't mean they should give up on everyone else. i've always been a fan of Shyamalan, it just seems we aren't as vocal as the haters for some reason.

This sucks because I was really looking forward to seeing The Happening... oh well... oh and the fact that BD advertises The Happening and gives it a bad score does not make them a "laughing stock". It shows that they have some credibility..because they'd be complete tools if they advertised it, and gave it a good score despite it being a shitty movie.

The only thing worse than the move itself are it's Annoying in-screen web adds!!!!! I fu---ng hate them!!!! "we saw the signs, bla, bla, bla, now we donīt want to let you browse your page"!!!!

What exactly does the R rating stand for? Retarded? Ridiculous? Rotten? Rancid? Reprehensible? This is the worst piece of crap a major studio has dumped in theaters in years. Uwe Boll could've done better.

Bro_Mole the "laughing stock" comment was directed at the studios behind The Happening and NOT BD
