Don't get me wrong, I love Adam Sandler and have always loved him, but lately he and his company have turned out nothing but disappointments. Hopefully ZOHAN (David's mini-review) will put my foot in my mouth, but until then call me skeptical. Shocking news this morning as Happy Madison, Sandler's production shingle, is prepping a thriller entitled Shortcut that sounds like it's right down our alley. Read on for details, what are your guys' thoughts?
Adam Sandler's production shingle Happy Madison is taking a turn down a new road.
The company known for comedies has signed on to produce a genre project, a thriller titled "Shortcut," as the inaugural picture of a nascent genre label it's calling Scary Madison.
The movie centers on two brothers who come upon a rarely used shortcut in their new town -- and soon discover the reasons why it's so rarely used. Andrew Seeley, Shannon Woodward and Dave Franco will star.
"Shortcut" will be financed by Ingo Volkhammer's hedge fund-backed Leomax Entertainment and co-produced by Leomax and Scary Madison. Volkhammer, Scary Madison's Scott Sandler and Brian Witten and Leomax's Scott Einbinder will produce; Adam Sandler and Scary Madison's Jack Giarraputo will serve as exec producers.
The Sandlers' shingle will rely on Happy Madison talent for various creative roles in "Shortcut" -- the script is co-written by Scott Sandler, while Nicholaus Goosen, who directed Happy Madison's intergenerational comedy "Grandma's Boy," will helm. Dan Hannon co-wrote the screenplay.
Indigomotion, the genre theatrical arm of Leomax, is planning to release "Shortcut" theatrically. Leomax does have a theatrical first-look deal with Overture, which could come aboard later to distribute the movie, as well as a TV first-look deal with Starz.
Production is scheduled to start next month in Sas¬katchewan, with a SAG waiver already granted. Endeavor helped package the project.
Leomax, a financier/producer based in Los Angeles and Berlin, has a number of movies in various stages of production; it recently completed production on the Mischa Barton thriller "Walled in" and the Jordan Ladd horror pic "Grace."
Happy Madison has had a litany of successful comedies with and without a toplining Sandler. Its "You Don't Mess With the Zohan" comes out from Columbia Friday.
An Adam Sandler produced horror flick ?? It will have a better shot if he does not star in it. It's like Jim Carrey, Wil Ferrel. It's hard to take them serious in dramatic movies.
I can't see this being just ok. It will either be surprisingly good, or absolute crap. Just my prediction.
Sandler (who i think is SO NOT FUNNY) was very good in the dramatic role in Punch Drunk Love - and he is producing this horror flick - not acting in it. i thkn scary madison is a good idea.
You fuckin people. You were toddlers when Happy Gilmore came out weren't you? Sandlers old movies are comedy classics, end of story. This new idea might just be crazy enough to work. It's such a bizarre move that they'd have to be really confident in the script to make it happen. I dunno. We'll see.
Lets all agree here, Adam Sandler has produced and directed great movies. In addition, he is a great actor. The movies tell the story. From comedies to "Reign Over Me" he has had an A- career hands down. With this said, who knows how a horror and-or thriller will take part in the scheme of things. I'm excited to see...
Reign Over Me was a good sereious movie that he did. I was very impressed with his acting skills. Even Click has some good acting in it that you wouldn't expect. I'm not to thrilled about seeing Zohan but Grandma's Boy was a fucking riot. If Nick SWARDSON is in this as comic relief that would be pretty cool. Might be a sleeper movie that comes out of no where...you never know.
Saw Zohan today, awful movie, not quite as bad as Chuck and Larry, which isnt saying much. Sandler is half assing it now, Happy Gilmore is one of my fav comedies, Waterboy was great, other than that, sandler has done nothing good at all. So Im a bit skeptical of this, although ive heard he wont be in the film, just producing, but really, what does the man know about thrillers or horror for that matter? Look how bad he is at comedy.
Those of you that are ready to hand Adam Sandler an Oscar award for his acting ability really need to put the bong down. Yes, I laughed at Happy Gilmore and even the Wedding Singer. He can be pretty damn funny SOMETIMES. But more often than not, most of his films are crap. How bout 50 First Dates, Anger Management, Little Nicky, Spanglish ? I could go on, but my point is made.
i hope this is good...i do too love adam sandler, but ill give this a shot. reign over me was pretty good....spanglish didnt really see but idk used to his slapstick comedy like ni the waterboy, happy gilmore, billy madison and i now pronounce you chuck and larry...click ii fell asleep after the first fifteen minutes, but when i turned on the tv and caught the end of it it actually didnt look that bad of a movie.......zohan dont even look that good at all looks stupid. dont get me wrong he is still a fine actor. and he can do the serious stuff (big daddy, punch drunk love). ill be seein this.
his earlier films are classics, not sure if I'll see his new film though. Look at it this way, in a world where we're being bombarded with PG-13 horror made for teenage girls, crappy made for the Sci-Fi channel movies, and movies that do not need a remake being remade, this is really not all that bad. I'll take Adam Sandler horror over some pathetic ass horror movie starring some lame ass rapper..Busta Rhymes v. Michael Myers anybody? stop looking at me swan....
Wow.....words kinda fail me....I'm sure some dipsh*t will pop up saying "you can do it!" Sandler just cracks 45566576857548600000 ppl up,I aint one of em....("Number 23" anyone?) I mean he does ok in his "serious" roles and all,but overall the mans like a retard trying to hump a doorknob-just not funny-so his lil "thriller" is a mistake...i may be wrong though
My bad 4 draggin this out,but THE MAN IS JUST NOT FUNNY, NOT MANY PPL WILL WANNA SEE "BILLY MADISON GILMOUR BIG DADDY NICKY ZOHAN GOES TO A HAUNTED HOUSE" but thats just my 2cents worth-peace all
Ya shattered68, I did like Little Nicky. But that was about a decade before Chuck and Larry. Don't lump 'em together. It's scientifically proven that Sandler movies started to suck at Anger Management and beyond.
