Zack Snyder NOT Directing 'Army of the Dead'

We have some terrible news to share with you all this evening, especially if you're a fan of the DAWN OF THE DEAD remake or 300. It was announced today that Zack Snyder will NOT be directing the massive zombie pic Army of the Dead, instead Warner Bros. has signed commercial director and visual artist Matthijs van Heijningen to make his feature directing debut on the action thriller that takes place in zombie-infested Las Vegas. The good news is that Zack Snyder will still be on board with Deborah Snyder to produce under their WB-based Cruel & Unusual Films banner. The script by Joby Harold (writer and director of "Awake") focuses on a father who tries to save his daughter from certain death in a zombie-ridden Sin City. Snyder told us last July that the scope will be HUGE.

Van Heijningen is an ad director who is a multiple winner of Cannes Lions for commercials for advertisers including Toyota, Peugeot, Renault, Stella Artois, Pepsi and Bud Light. He has also directed several shorts.

The one thing that gets me excited about this whole project is the whole "scope will be HUGE" aspect. They said it, so they better fucking deliver.

I agree, it would be a shame if Snyder handing over the reigns meant the movie was given a smaller budget.

Ugh, that's disheartening. I was really looking forward to Snyder giving us a sequel to his version of DOTD. Hopefully it isn't too far ruined with Matthijs at the helm. On the other hand...this other project looks great! On the whole...two new zombie movies coming out, awesome

Why did Zack Snyder pass on directing?

Its been known for a while that he wasn't going to direct it. I'm a little bit more excited that he isn't directing.

The "huge scope" idea definitely makes it one to look forward to, more zombie movies the better, even Romero's last wasn't total trash.

i agree, crazygrusem. Zach has said from the get go that he wasn't going to direct this. i would've liked Zach to direct but hopefully w/ him & his wife producing, we'll get a great film!!
