It was announced today that DreamWorks has acquired the remake rights to the 2002 Japanese box office hit Yomigaeri, know as Resurrection here in the States. Based on a novel by Shinji Kajio, "Yomigaeri" centers on a government official who is sent to a rural town to investigate a child who, after vanishing for 60 years, returns to his mother not having aged at all. William Nicholson is writing the screenplay. DreamWorks is eyeing a late 2008 start date. "Yomigaeri" marks the fourth Asian film to which DreamWorks has acquired the rights. The stu dio brought remakes of Japanese films "The Ring" and "The Ring Two" to the bigscreen and is in post-production on a new version of the South Korean film "A Tale of Two Sisters."

Fuck the remakes. You're wasting money on bad imitations that could be spent on making better new movies or at least theatrical releases for the originals. As an industry, you're cheating the moviegoers who feed you, clothe you, and pay your rent. There are way too many creative and imaginative people out there coming up with ideas and writing scripts and you simply shit on all of them and us and spend your millions on what basically amounts to watching a bunch of drunks on stage at a pool hall playing their renditon of Hotel California or Freebird. You know, movies used to get made "without" consulting a statistical analysis of marketing surveys done by a computer program.

Well odds are if the film companies who remake all of these movies just released the foreign speaking original version, the masses would not make them very much money at the theater, reinterpriting another not to long ago movie is just to much money to pass up for the companies who have already made alot of $$$ on the remake versions (shitty or not) reguardless of the reintriptation they are most likely to make money on the film no matter if the reviews are good, or what people might suggest, they just pay X amount of dollars on some other already finished product and to just COPY that into a new English version of it is hard to look at like something very artsy or original, most of these foreign remakes I cant stand, perhaps because I just dont see much originality in the process of making a movie that just is making a few quick bucks on crapping on horror fans for a few weekends before eventually they realize how awful it was, but for some reason these idiots keep piling up at the movie theater for this nonsense Id much rather prefer busting out my 70s -80s horror genre movies on dvd like, pumpkinhead, phantasm, halloween III (yes III!), critters, john carpenter's the thing, they live... than go piss my money away on someone fattening up their bank account with a quick buck
