I don't know. What I liked so much about the previous movies (I liked the first 2 at least) was the future encroaching on present day. With people arriving from the future to disrupt the lives of this woman and her son it had an element of surreality that shaped virtually every scene. This sounds like Starship Troopers, but without the endearing camp and with robots in place of bugs, which doesn't necessarily leave a whole lot.
