Lionsgate has moved up the release of The Midnight Meat Train (reviews) from its August 1 date to a dangerous July 11 release where it will go toe-to-toe with Universal Pictures' Hellboy II: The Golden Army. We heard rumblings that the film is set to open in only 30 theaters, so start watching those listings or put aside a few bucks to score it on DVD. Based on a short story from Clive Barker's "Books of Blood", the film features a commuter's run-in with a New York subway serial killer and a horde of subterranean cannibals.
30 Theaters? Wait, what? That can't be right. Since when is this a limited release? They were showing the trailer for this in wide release movies (like Rambo), why would they do that if they were only giving it a limited release?
i'm glad it's being moved up but only because it might mean i can see it sooner. but if it's going to be trampled by Hellboy then keep it for the Aug release. also, PLEASE let them release it into MORE theaters than just 30. i mean even Diary of the Dead was released in 60 theaters (which too many people still couldn't see it).
Oh, fuck... not again but atleast the release date is closer I hope they still do release it over here in Puerto Rico since it has been listed in my local theater for a long time.
I bet Midnight meat train will not be released until October. It got delayed with May 16 because of Prince Caspian. Then it got delayed August 1 because of Mummy 3. And now this could be delayed because of Hellboy 2. By the way oh hell no! Not 30 theaters. Lionsgate is @#&&^$&*$*@*E)$)#_)
I have seen this film and it frakkin rocks. I cannot fathom why Lionsgate would dump it in 30 theaters. Going up against Hell Boy 2 not to mention The Dark Night the following weekend is total suicide. Apparently the douche-bags running Lionsgate right now only care about boring sequels (Saw) or anything Tyler Perry makes. What happened to good old fashioned horror? The kind that actually gets under your skin???
If you want to see this film released nationwide (sometime in fall seems wisest - even August 1 was better than this) then I suggest an e-mail campaign to the studio with the caption "pull your heads out of your asses."
Either way -- go see this film. Fans of Barker and fans of Kitamura and fans of good old bloody horror will not be disappointed. I promise...
face it fellas, our 8 years of decent horror is coming to a close with Bush leaving. =/
Cant wait for the next Republican to enter office, then we will have some good horror again ;)
