The other day the Hollywood Reported confirmed this story that Producer Richard Rubinstein is planning a direct sequel to George A. Romero's legendary Dawn of the Dead, which ends with the survivors hopping in a helicopter and taking off to who knows where. We got the inside scoop this morning that star TONY TODD (Candyman, Final Destinations, Hatchet) is in talks to star in the sequel to the film, which told the story of four people's escape from an urban nightmare to a suburban one. They barricade themselves in a shopping mall and try to start new lives. Todd starred as Ben in Tom Savini's 1990 remake of NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD.
HELL-GEAR, not just Harrison, but Stallone with both Rocky Balboa and Rambo! From what I heard, those two movies got good reviews, and I'm hearing the new Indy movie kicks ass!! Longtime sequels aren't dead. I'd rather have longtime sequels than constant remakes. Thumbs up for ORIGINAL CONTIUITY!!!!
this sounds awesome but i think that continuality would be broken a shitload if it is supposed to take place right after DOTD because one day they look normal and the very next day they have aged like 40 years, but hey, lets see what they can do with this.
Hahahah this is awesome. They should use the fan script I wrote when I was 14, in which Peter was living with Franny's son (Franny died in childbirth since they couldn't obtain good medical equipment). They roamed around the western part of the country, scavenging what they needed for resources/shelter/food, and pretty much just avoided the zombies (which, by this time, had largely died out as well). They eventually found another group of survivors who were carrying on Doc Frankenstein's work, and then all hell breaks loose. Strangely, Land actually had similar elements. I thought it was damn good when i was 14 anyway hahahah.
There was nowhere to go with dawn2004 since everyone dies after the credits. No, there was no way out of that shit sandwich, lol. As for this, I'm still kind of against this.. but Tony Todd. That would be a great start to getting a great cast. But I'm really curious to see where they go with this story.
'Dawn of the Dead 2' is a ridiculous title when you think about it. This could be good, but I'm not really comforted by inclusion of Tony Todd. He's a bit like Lance Hendrickson in that he's up for doing anything. A sequel to the remake would be a better idea really, the time gap is going to be bizzare if it picks up straight after the original...
i just hope they do a good job in trying to bring the og dawn and the og day cause those were two kick ass zombie flicks by the zombie master so there is a lot to live up two but casting tony todd would be a good start
I'm with dariofulci. This sounds like terrible news! One of the best things about the original is the ending, the mystery of "Does Peter make it? Where does he go?" I don't want to live in a world where those questions are answered. Let's use our imagination people. Romero didn't make a direct sequel for a reason, DOTD is already the centerpiece of the greatest horror series of all time. If it isn't broke, don't fucking fix it!
The 2004 remake was really done well I thought. Maybe the best horror remake in recent years. I'd see a sequel of the original. It could be interesting what they would do with the story after all these years.
I am hoping for this one. There needed to be a "gap filler" between the end of Dawn and the beginning of Day. Agreed the title sucks, but what else is there?Trioxin83 -"Hmmm Night, Dawn, Day...guess we could wedge this movie in there and call it Afternoon of the Dead... " that shit is funny!!!! Better Tony Todd than Ving Rhames to play Peter. I am also interested to see if Franny's baby comes out normal or is "infected".......
adding anotehr comment i just watched night o fth e living dead yesterday on comcast (the 1990) and i LOVED it so i will most def. be seeing this movie. kinda wierd seeing tony todd as a good guy so used to seeing him as candyman.
Wow...Another addition to the Dead franchise..I liked all the "Dead films"..Great movies...I would prefer they left the original Dawn of the dead film alone, and make a sequel to the 2004 DOTD movie..Although how they would do that, I dont know, because it sounded like everyone died at the end of the movie, but you never actually saw them get "munched"...Just heard their screams and cries, so assumptions of death aside, they could have Ving Rhames and Sarah Polley surviving..hence another story of survival against the Undead. Not sure whether that would make for a quality movie or not..If they did make a sequel to the original, which is most likely, then they would need to bring a strong cast into it, as they have done with Tony Todd and have a strong plot-line..with the survivors of the original carrying on where they left off and trying to survive the onslaught of the dead..a couple of questions tho..the orginal Dawn movie had very slow, sluggish, groaning zombies...Most if not all current zombie movies since the original have zombies that can run and jump after their victims, ripping them a new asshole..how do they direct this movie, with fast, assmunching death merchants? or like the original, sloth-like easily avoidable shit-kickers? eager to know...
Uh... you guys seriously want to see this? Seeing so much positivity is kind of charming, but in this case also sad.
Are you aware of DAY OF THE DEAD CONTAGIUM? or DAY OF THE DEAD the so-called remake? Or NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD 3-D? This is not a Romero film, it is not even a Zack Snyder film, and as much as I love Tony Todd, him being the star means it is DTV. In other words Rubinstein is cashing in.
Shit, even Romero can't make a good zombie movie anymore judging from DIARY OF THE DEAD. It's time to lay off the zombie movies for a while and especially these cynical cash-grabs that prey off the good name of Romero's series.
I would like to clarify to everyone that the movie is not Dawn of The Dead 2 it is called Escape of The Living Dead.I got my information from Tony Todd at the Crypticon Convention in Seattle when he wass signing my stuff and I asked him about it and he said its not DOTD 2 and asked me where I read this at
they should have Ken Foree and Tony Todd both in it
