'The Broken' Officially Joins After Dark Horrorfest III

After Dark Films' Courtney Solomon has been unloading announcements for this year's forthcoming Horrorfest: 8 Films to Die For and we already know a bunch of titles that will play, even though it is subject to change. Today more news comes in, although we reported this a few weeks back. Today it was officially announced that Sean Ellis' The Broken (review) has joined the limited theatrical film festival. You can read the press release inside.

After Dark Films CEO Courtney Solomon has announced that After Dark has inked a deal with Gaumont International to feature The Broken in it’s next incarnation of Horrorfest: 8 Films to Die For. The psychological thriller premiered in January at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival. Lena Headey (300 and Fox’s ‘Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles’) stars along with Richard Jenkins (The Visitor), Asier Newman and Melvil Poupaud in the feature written and directed by Academy Award nominee Sean Ellis (Cashback). Lene Bausager of Left Turn Films produced the film with Franck Chorot executive producing.

In The Broken, a successful radiologist played by Headey has her life spiral out of control when she sees the spitting image of herself driving down a London street. While attempting to uncover who the imposter could be, she stumbles into a terrifying mystery that her family and closest friends are somehow involved in, leaving her with no one she can trust.

“When I saw The Broken, I knew that horror fans would be riveted by its nonstop suspense. Sean’s a master storyteller and it’s no surprise that it is well-crafted, visually stunning and exists

on an intellectual plane that true fans of the horror genre will really enjoy,” stated Solomon. “It’s so psychologically involving that you won’t be able to take your eyes off of it.”

The Broken joins the 8 Films to Die ForÒ lineup after recent news that After Dark will, for the first time, be producing two of the series’ films. The first two films, Perkins’ 14 and Faithless are scheduled for production in May. After Dark has also previously announced that The Butterfly Effect 3 will play in the next installment of the festival. “With Horrorfest entering its third year, we’re pleased that we’re expanding our horizons by producing our own element of the festival while continuing to acquire excellent films like The Broken,” added Solomon.

Dana Lambert, VP of Acquisitions at After Dark brokered the deal with Cinetic Media who represented the filmmakers in the negotiations along with Gaumont 's Loic Trocme and Cecile Gaget. "We are delighted to start a relationship with After Dark and have The Broken among such a high profile slate" stated Gaget, Gaumont’s EVP of International Sales.

Interesting that they've started producing their own films and also this year they added a sequel (Butterfly Effect 3) for the first time I believe? This festival seems to be gaining some steam. I love the idea and hope the movies improve. But I've enjoyed both versions of it anyway and also own all the films on DVD.

i think the after dark thing is a good idea but i think they make some poor choices in the movies the present not saying there ALL bad but a decent percent of them are pretty crappy
