Benderspink and FilmEngine will produce the third installment of The Butterfly Effect along with After Dark Films, which will distribute it theatrically in the U.S. as part of its After Dark Horrorfest "8 Films to Die For" series. Holly Brix ("The Lost Girls") wrote the screenplay, which centers on a young man discovers he has inherited the powers of "The Butterfly Effect" and attempts to solve the mystery of his high school girlfriend's death using his newfound ability, only to unwittingly unleash a vicious serial killer. Production will start September 1 in Vancouver with casting underway. The first film is awesome, and now that there's a serial killer involved, this could prove to be interesting.
Ok, this will completely break the mold for the After Dark Format... but although the plot sounds really interesting, let´s hope they don´t drop the ball like the sequel...
I kinda dug the first one, even though I really, really tried to hate it since I can't stand Ashton the douche bag. He's not funny, never has been, never will be. But he did good with the dramatic stuff. I wasn't even aware there was a second one. Must have been DTV. The story on this one doesn't sound too bad. I might give it a watch.
The second one was GOD AWFUL. I really liked the first one though. I think it's odd to include it as part of the After Dark Horrorfest, I don't get why they don't just release it STV like the second one. Oh well...
" young man discovers he has inherited the powers of "The Butterfly Effect" and attempts to solve the mystery of his high school girlfriend's death using his newfound ability, only to unwittingly unleash a vicious serial killer."
Sounds like a combination of 'The I Inside' (where Ryan Phillipe's character used time travel to investigate his brother's murder) and 'Frequency' (where Jim Caveziel's tampering with history awakens a serial killer from a coma). Either way, I'm guessing this'll turn out as bad as 'Butterfly Effect 2' did.
Seriously if they want to do a sequel to Butterfly Effect, do it the right way. Make it about Evan's character from the first film and cast Ashton Kutcher. Either that or make a prequel about his father's experiences in time travel.
Butterfly Effect was okay, the second was fucking gay. How will the third one turn out? Hmmmm... :/
