Cloverfield Designer Preps 'Piranha' Remake

Although it's not the biggest news ever, it's still cool considering how cool the monster looked in CLOVERFIELD. It was announced yesterday that Neville Page, who designed the CLOVERFIELD monster, will be creating the underwater biters for Alex Aja's Piranha 3-D, which is slated for release on July 24, 2009 from Dimension Films. In the remake of Joe Dante's film, Havasu sits in the crater formed by a prehistoric volcanic eruption, and when earth tremors tear open a crack in the lake floor, all hell breaks through. Piranhas - a million ravenous, razor-toothed monsters, unchanged since the dawn of time.

The Cloverfield Monster looked really shitty. Maybe it's better this guy is keeping it simple and working on something that actually exsists. Somebody get this guy an Encylopdedia and some tracing paper. After that just scan it, scale the fish up by %20, and make it's teeth bigger. Anything else would just be stupid.

I wonder if we'll ever get to actually see the piranhas before the movie comes out.

I was actually looking forward to this movie... Until now! I hope he doesn't screw up the look of the piranhas like he did that goofy cloverfeild monster.

I think we're pretty safe here. The Cloverfield monster design had no historical precedent for it's biological structure and characteristics. He was trying to come up with something as different as possible from the giant monsters we've seen before, which basically amount to a few lizards, a gorilla, and Glenn Langan. Thus, he tried too hard and overdid it a bit with the monster. Piranha will very likely be different. We have historical precedent for its biological design and we also have different creative minds in charge of this movie. The creature designers don't get absolute autonomy from directors and producers. We'll just have to trust "those" guys not to green light anything too ridiculous.

I hate this! Okay so everything is perfect. I just hate that I have to wait 'til next summer to see this Piranha' in 3-D. ARRRG.
