It's kind of creepy to think some of you were disappointed when you found out half of FACES OF DEATH was fake. The cult video series, which features supposedly real people dying in really f**ked up ways, is now finding its way onto DVD with Red Shirt Pictures handling the extra features for the release. Read on to see what you'll find when the DVD gets released later this year from Gorgon Video.
-The DVD will feature two versions of the film -- a brand-new, high-def transfer taken from a Japanese print, which was apparently the cleanest they could find. That means, unfortunately, all the “mosaic censoring” will be intact. The other version will be the same found on the VHS release back in the day.
-There will be three featurettes -- one with effects men Allan Apone & Douglas J. White, one with editor Glen Turner, and one that will feature Toe Tag founder and August Underground director Fred Vogel, essentially pouring out his love for the film.
-A commentary track by director Conan le Cilaire that promises to be very in-depth about the entire history of Faces of Death and may help people see the movie in a new light!
But this isn't the 1st time on dvd b/c NETFLIX actually has it but in a VERY LONG WAIT. Anyways, I wanna see this and yes I am dissapointed that they are fake.
This has been on dvd for years now, but this sounds like a nice solid release. I've got 1-6 on Vhs, but I'll pick this one up for sure, I can't wait to hear that commentary. Sucks about the mosaic shit though. Damn Japanese mosaics *shakes fist*
Fake or not, I made my friends vomit their roast beef sandwiches whilst watching this movie. I'm sure the additional material will be rad. Original is available on Amazon (used or new) starting around $15. Second one is also available. I'm sure the additional material is worth waiting for the reissue. Mosaic censoring is like lingerie... leaves something to the imagination. Ever the optimist.
