For those of you wondering what the status on Diary of the Dead 2 is, Dread Central got the skinny right from George A. Romero's mouth. "[Producer] Peter [Grunwald]'s coming up here next week and we're going to sand it down and refine it, so we'll be ready. Then it's just a matter of someone saying "yeah, do it." After we broke the news here that we might see Bub in action, Romero tells the site, "I’m using a couple of the big characters but not the ones you would expect. I’m starting with the girl that took off…" Watch for more soon.
Ugh. I hated Diary Of The Dead. It was boring and lacked blood and gore. And how can they have Bub in the sequel if Diary is not set in the same world as the Night Of The Living Dead series?
the first really did suck, and i'm VERY forgiving of zombies and especially Romero. If they can kill the entire cast right off the bat and bring in some other folks into a better story line i MIGHT pay to see this. MAYBE!
::laughs:: Awsome. I actually like Diary, barring a single scene really.
And as for Bub, from my understanding 'Diary' ran concordingly with 'Night' inside of the timeline. So it would be possible for him to return in theory.
I will never understand how people could not have loved Diary of the Dead, since I'm usually the most down on most of the movies out these days. But I thought Diary was absolute genius and was really something special, far and above what's been offered in recent years.
I haven't seen the first yet, but Romero is at the very least giving us something to "chew" on. Personally, I would like to see his take on World War Z.
World War Z is already being made, with Max Brooks at the helm, who SHOULD be. It's his idea.
Diary was just awful, I'm one of the only people that saw it in the theater and it was a waste of money and dropped the average of the other Romero films significantly.
It Sucked. And certainly is the least of his films to deserve any kind of treatment, especially a sequel. I was kind of hoping it wouldn't even make it to DVD, and people would just forget about it... Maybe George could just bury it in some soft peat for a few hundred years...
I believe he is talking about that Texas belle who stole off in the Winnebago...
Diary is a fine picture, a work of art in its own right. I loved it. And I truly believe that all those who think it stinks should watch movies like House of the Dead and Children of the Dead, to put into perspective what a REAL "crappy" zombie movie is. If you think that Diary is a piece of crap, then stop watching Romero films and go live off of Saw and all its sequels... because Romero's films are too highbrow for you.
Diary may not be perfect, but any intellectual and mature fan would and will appreciate it for what it is...
I have to say that I truly loved Diary. Saw it for the first time yesterday (09JUNE08) and just absolutely ate it up (pun intended). I hope there is a sequel! For the record, whatever Mr. Romero does, I'm there.
